Position Overview:
The R&D Operations Technician II supports R&D teams by preparing and managing mission-critical devices, equipment, and materials; maintaining reliable service and asset records; coordinating equipment readiness; and providing a safe, organized, and trusted support experience. This developing role independently owns standard work with moderate supervision and is accountable for complete records, timely communication, routine problem resolution, and follow-through.
Responsibilities
Fulfill equipment, device, material, transfer, return, and related support requests through approved request channels.
Prepare, inspect, configure, stage, deploy, recover, transfer, and return supported devices and equipment within approved procedures.
Maintain accurate asset, inventory, assignment, location, ownership, condition, and lifecycle records in approved business systems.
Receive shipments, verify contents, apply required labels or asset tags, store materials in designated locations, and document custody and disposition.
Maintain organized stockrooms, staging areas, controlled distribution points, and shared equipment locations using 5S principles.
Support routine inventories, reconciliations, asset audits, discrepancy investigation, and corrective record updates.
Perform approved basic troubleshooting, configuration checks, reset validation, firmware or application-access support, and escalation to the correct partner team.
Coordinate repair, replacement, calibration, preventive maintenance, or specialized support with authorized teams or service providers.
Keep request records current with status, decisions, blockers, requester actions, next steps, and completion details.
Create and maintain clear how-to guides, process instructions, troubleshooting information, and knowledge resources.
Consult with supported teams and recommend approved alternatives when requested devices or equipment are unavailable.
Own standard work from intake through completion.
Resolve common issues using established procedures and the correct escalation path.
Create or update basic documentation for recurring work.
Required Skills and Competencies
Working knowledge of inventory control, asset lifecycle management, request fulfillment, equipment readiness, and customer support.
Ability to support common mobile operating systems, device setup, application access, troubleshooting, and user guidance appropriate to the role.
Ability to learn request-management, asset-management, inventory, collaboration, documentation, and equipment-distribution software.
Working knowledge sufficient to own standard work.
Ability to prioritize multiple requests and communicate delays.
Clear written and verbal communication with customers, teammates, vendors, and cross-functional partners.
Strong organization, attention to detail, prioritization, and follow-through.
Ability to learn new applications, business systems, and workflows through structured training and practical use.
Ability to follow quality-related procedures, work instructions, safety requirements, and documentation controls.
Sound judgment when resolving issues, escalating risks, and asking for support.
Proficiency with common office productivity tools and the ability to create clear technical or operational documentation.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent with at least four years of relevant experience, or an associate degree or technical education with at least two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting R&D, engineering, technical support, asset management, inventory, laboratory, or service operations.
Relevant safety, quality, technical-support, Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous-improvement training.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
Work may occur in offices, laboratories, stockrooms, staging areas, and equipment-storage locations.
Ability to lift and safely handle at least 30 pounds, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
Onsite presence and travel may be required based on site and business needs.
