Job Purpose
The R&D Technician is responsible for supporting research and development activities through the assembly, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic devices, cables, circuit boards, and automated test equipment (ATE) hardware. This role requires advanced soldering skills, cable assembly expertise, and the ability to perform precision electrical rework on product prototypes, engineering test fixtures, and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). The technician works closely with engineers to support product development, verification testing, failure analysis, and continuous improvement activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Perform hand soldering and desoldering of through-hole, surface-mount (SMT), and fine-pitch electronic components.
2. Assemble prototype electrical and electromechanical devices according to engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
3. Support engineering development activities through rapid prototyping and assembly modifications.
4. Inspect solder joints and assemblies to IPC quality standards.
5. Build and modify complex cable assemblies, harnesses, and test interconnects.
6. Perform wire stripping, crimping, solder termination, heat shrinking, cable routing, and connector installation.
7. Verify cable continuity, insulation resistance, and functionality using appropriate test equipment.
8. Interpret wiring diagrams, cable drawings, and assembly specifications
9. Perform electrical rework and repair of prototype and production-equivalent circuit boards.
10. Replace damaged or obsolete components including resistors, capacitors, ICs, connectors, and discrete devices.
11. Troubleshoot electrical failures using schematics, test equipment, and engineering guidance.
Qualifications
1. AA Degree or equivalent work experience in a related discipline and 3 years of related experience.
2. Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and assembly documentation.
3. Experience using laboratory test equipment including: Digital Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Bench Power Supplies, Signal Generators, and continuity test equipment
4. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional engineering teams.
6. Proficient in soldering is required.
