Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Summary:

The Radiation Therapist functions as an integral member of the radiation oncology team. The team provides patient care and supportive services that are directed towards achievement of patient care outcomes through the integrated skills of all team members in the department. The Radiation Therapist, as a member of the team, is responsible for the accurate delivery of prescribed planned course of Radiation Therapy to patients in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Responsible for treatment delivery and maintenance of prescribed standards. Monitors patients for unusual reactions and events. Observes Radiation Safety measures for patients and personnel. Responsible for other related duties as required. 

Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in the performance of treatment, reassessment, development and implementation of the patient's prescription/orders in accordance with the department standards and policies and as prescribed by the physician. 
  • Displays professional conduct essential to the well-being of the radiation oncology patient. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for the specific patient population of the department. 
  • Recognizes and reports changes in patient's status and condition and reports to appropriate personnel. 
  • Continuously prioritizes patient needs and nursing problems based on observations and data collection. 
  • Demonstrates effective written communication skills; Maintains accurate and detailed treatment chart documentation. 
  • Demonstrates effective verbal communication skills in the clinical setting. 
  • Observes the clinical progress of the radiation oncology patient, uses clinical decision making skills to recognize and report any signs of complications. 
  • Utilizes treatment accessories to accurately reproduce the radiation treatment. 
  • Adheres to radiation safety procedure protocol.  

What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • (RT) Radiologic Technologist/Radiographer
  • (ARRT-T) Radiation Therapy
  • Graduate of an accredited radiation therapy training program
  • 3 years of Radiation Therapy experience preferred
