EXAMINATION INFORMATION
EXPERIENCE EVALUATION: An experience evaluation consists of a quantitative evaluation of an Applicant's academic training and experience pertinent to the classification for which an examination is taken, based on the statement of experience as recorded on the candidate's application and on academic training based on required credentials.
Examples of Duties
JOB DUTIES
Under supervision, performs skilled technical work and services for the City of Clevelands 800 MHz Radio System. Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains the two-way radios, base and control stations, antenna systems, cellular telephones, mobile data terminals, AVL/GPS, light bars, sirens, radar, Automatic License Plate Readers, and all related communications and electronic equipment as needed. Designs, implements, and documents unique systems, wiring, and/or circuits in response to custom needs and requirements. Develops and implements various two-way mobile and portable radio subscriber templates. Maintains electronic inventory control. Escorts outside vendors, technicians, etc. and conducts inspections of their work when called to a work site. May drive medium duty (approx. 38,000 lbs.) trucks. Maintains radio and other electronic equipment in proper working order. Maintains accurate records on all work performed. Prepares program and reports and correspondence. Conducts research and provides statistical results on systems, work performed, etc. Provides information and assistance to other departments, outside agencies, and the public. Works as assigned during any emergency activation of the City Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Participates in City and/or regional drills or exercises to facilitate onsite communications or establish procedures or protocols for emergency situations. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required. Two years of full-time paid experience in radio system technology or related field with an emphasis in installing, servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining vehicle electronics, digital two-way radio systems or any related electronic equipment and systems. (Substitution: An Associate's Degree or the equivalent vocational training with major coursework in Communications Technology may substitute for the required experience.) Valid State of Ohio Driver's License required. Must be familiar with computers and have a working knowledge of Microsoft operating system and Office Suite. Must be able to perform work in various settings and in all weather conditions for long shifts and/or irregular hours in case of emergency. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. (For reference purposes, some related fields similar would be: vehicle electronics technicians; car audio installers; radio system repair workers; persons who repair or fabricate circuit boards, work with direct current circuits, have a good fundamental knowledge of ip based radio systems, or have experience in working on equipment with vehicles like automatic vehicle locators, global positioning systems, or have worked in a shop putting lights and other electronics in vehicles; persons who work in the cellular industry as either an installer of cellular equipment in vehicles or on a cellular site in the field.)

CLEVELAND MUNICIPAL SCHOOL DISTRICT (CMSD) PREFERENCE CREDIT
An applicant who is a graduate of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and is participating in an open competitive entrance-level examination, as determined by the Commission, shall receive an additional five (5) points upon achieving a passing score, as established in the examination announcement. Applicants must provide acceptable proof of graduation from a CMSD school at the time of application in order to qualify for this credit.
VETERANS' PREFERENCE
Veterans preference will be awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214, must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing application for the examination in which credit is sought in order to qualify for veterans credit. If the applicant has received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions that applicant shall receive an additional five (5) points added to their raw score on the examination; or ten (10) points are added to their raw score on the examination if applicant's supporting documentation indicates more than fifteen percent (15%) service connected disability. NOTE: Only DD Form 214 (long form) or an official armed service document indicating type of discharge or separation and the dates of active service will be accepted as proof of active service.
