Summary
Radiologic Technologist 1 is responsible for use of radiological equipment in diagnostic examinations in a clinic, emergency room or main hospital laboratory area. A related responsibility is for assisting radiologists or other medical specialists in performing fluoroscopic procedures. Employees in this classification operate stationary and mobile x-ray equipment for diagnostic purposes, taking chest, body section, and other radiographs.
Responsibilities
Produces radiographs of the chest, abdomen, extremities, spine, and other areas using x-ray equipment in emergency rooms, clinics, or hospital settings while maintaining age-specific patient sensitivity.
Positions patients and obtains required radiographs following fluoroscopic examinations.
Adjusts x-ray equipment angles and heights and positions patients appropriately for examinations.
Provides radiation protection according to prescribed age-specific safety standards.
Computes technical factors for each patient to ensure radiographs have proper detail, density, and contrast.
Transports patients to and from holding areas or other assigned locations.
Operates portable x-ray equipment to perform bedside chest or other required examinations.
Provides and applies immobilization devices as needed while adhering to age-specific safety standards.
Assists radiologists or other medical specialists during fluoroscopic procedures.
Assists physicians in administering contrast materials.
Maintains all required safety standards.
Assists supervisors in demonstrating techniques to radiologic technology students.
Copies pertinent clinical information from the medical record to radiology request forms.
Utilizes appropriate HIS computer system functions and records complete or incomplete procedures.
Performs selected procedures in other radiology areas when requested.
Rotates within the department as required.
Receives on-the-job training in specialized technical areas and attends in-service programs to learn new equipment and advanced techniques.
Follows all infection control policies and procedures, including Universal Precautions.
Maintains the appearance of assigned radiographic rooms and ensures equipment and accessories are cleaned.
Performs basic patient care duties and initiates life-supporting measures when necessary.
Complies with all safety rules, departmental regulations, hospital protocols, and procedure standards.
Maintains understanding of growth and development principles for patients across all age groups.
Assists registration staff with duties such as quick registering, welcoming patients, and escorting patients to treatment areas.
Attends at least 80% of scheduled staff meetings.
