Radiologic Technologist

Starting Wage Range: $29.76/hr. - $38.39/hr.

Job Summary:

Provides an exceptional imaging experience to the patients of the Grand Ronde Health and Wellness Center while delivering the highest imaging quality to providers.

Essential Functions:

• Performs all duties of the radiology department as outlined in the GRHWC Radiology Policies and Procedures Manual.
• Monitors equipment for proper operation, maintains maintenance records as required by the manufacturer, and determines when maintenance or repair is needed. Performs and logs periodic preventive maintenance. Works with a contracted service provider for any necessary repairs or other radiology services
• Ensures that patient orders, examination records, technical factors, chart documentation, patient insurance information, billing, CPT, ICD coding and other information produced is legible, accurate, and delivered in a timely manner, in accordance with the Indian Health Services and State of Oregon reporting standards.
• Performs quality control and quality assurance functions for image quality, accession logs, and computer-generated reports to ensure the highest quality of timely patient care is provided relative to radiographic services. 
• Prepares digital images to be delivered to radiologists for interpretation. Upon request, prepare and send images electronically to outside providers (via PACS), mail out (DVR disc), or patient pickup (DVR disc). 
• Operates the X-ray machine according to manufacturer guidelines and established procedures to produce quality images and ensure patient safety and comfort.
• Works with contracted physicists for an annual safety inspection. 
• Assesses employee radiation exposure safety by monitoring and maintaining all dosimetry badges. Works with a contracted radiation detection company to ensure all badges are exchanged quarterly.  Reviews reports and documents as necessary.
• Responsible for writing and updating policies and procedures related to the Radiology Department.  
• Oversees training and assesses competency for additional department personnel as necessary.
• Obeys institutional policies and procedures regarding patient care, with special attention to biohazard procedures.
• Retrieves orders from Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Radiology Information System (RIS).           Ensures timely delivery of patient reports to outside providers.
• Supports and maintains software functionality for the RIS and Picture Archiving Communication Systems (PACS) systems, which may include working with the contracted radiology group and CTGR Information Services Department.
• Maintain billing records with the contracted radiology group.
• Assists providers with connectivity for viewing images via PACS and exam ordering in the EHR system.
• Responsible for troubleshooting communication issues regarding the HL7 interface between CTGR and the contracted radiology group.
• Maintains continuing education requirements as needed for certification with ARRT and state agencies.
• Maintains inventory, ordering and stocking.
• May serve both eligible and non-eligible beneficiaries in an outreach capacity both on and off site.
• May transport native and/or non-native patients of the GRHWC in company vehicle as necessary.
• Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

• Requires an Associate’s degree of Applied Science in Diagnostic Imaging or equivalent.
• Current license from the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) to practice in Oregon as an R.T. (R) (ARRT) or equivalent.
• Requires two (2) years of work experience in radiology in a hospital or clinical setting. 

• OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Driving Requirements:

• Employees may be required to drive for work-related purposes and must maintain a valid Oregon

Driver’s License (ODL), meet company vehicle insurance requirements, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.

Qualifications,Registrations, and Certifications:

• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification or equivalent.
• Requires current CPR Certification or ability to acquire it within six (6) months.
• Requires excellent customer relations skills.
• Requires the ability to perform patient assessments.
• Must have knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding and insurance billing practices, and excellent computer and data entry abilities.
• Must have knowledge of radiation protection standards.
• Must have knowledge of digital radiography, including manual non-automatic exposure control (AEC) radiographic equipment.
• Must have knowledge of electronic health record software, including scheduling and processing of diagnostic testing requests.
• Must be willing to cross-train and work in the lab operations when radiology duties are current.
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture is required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

• Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
• Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
• Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
• Occasionally requires lifting of up to 40 pounds.
• Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
• This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions, which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
• This work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working where there is a risk of exposure to contagious diseases, carcinogenic materials, caustic reagents, noxious fumes, flammable liquids, ionizing x-rays, and seasonal ambient temperature fluctuations.
• The incumbent is required to use protective clothing in compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations.
• The work is stressful and the workload varies sporadically from very heavy to moderate.
• This position will be working in constant proximity to ionizing x-rays, and will need to monitor safety for possible radiation exposure and document dosimetry reports as necessary.
• May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
• Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
