Summary
The R.T. is responsible for performing radiographic procedures on patients of every age utilizing techniques to provide quality radiographs for physician interpretation. Maintains clinical competency in assigned areas of responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Performs radiographic services on patients of every age utilizing approved departmental protocol
- Operates radiographic equipment
- Provides Service Excellence by using the AIDET Technique; Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You
- Explains the procedure to patients and provides patient education
- Immobilizes patients as necessary
- Selects appropriated exposure factors
- Practices radiation protection
- Evaluates images for technical quality and prepares for physician interpretation
- Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures
- Practices safety precautions and aseptic technique as necessary
- Prepares and administers contrast media as applicable to procedure
- Assists physician with imaging and fluoroscopic procedures
- Initiates life support measures for patients if necessary
- Maintains patient records
- Demonstrates competency in the use of RIS, PACS, and any other information system as required
- Understands and adheres to departmental policies and procedures related to specific job functions; acts as resource to other staff and new personnel
- Participates in professional development by maintaining clinical competency and completes mandatory medical center and departmental reviews
- Maintains continuing education credits as required by governing board
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program
- Current ARRT certification / Current SCRQSA license
- Dependent on area of responsibility
- Ability to operate radiographic equipment and produce quality radiographs
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate with patients, visitors, and employees within the organization
