Job Summary
The Radiologic Technologist Contributes to accurate and timely diagnosis of patients medical condition by performing all routine diagnostic studies in addition to at least one other modality, i.e. CT Scanning, Mammography, Bone Densitometry, Interventional Cardiac catheterization, or Phlebotomy, and Clinical vital signs for Patient care at Off-site locations. Also performs associated clerical tasks to support department functions after hours on weekends and on holidays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
Performs all radiographic exams with stationary and mobile equipment producing high-quality radiographic images.
Assesses patients significant others understanding of the procedure providing appropriate level of education.
Evaluates patients physiological status applying appropriate interventions as needed.
Provides emergency patient care when necessary.
Obtains informed consent and documents on appropriate forms.
Utilizes appropriate technical factors associated with the procedure.
Updates IT systems with accurate exam information and documentation.
May perform non-contrast head CT scan in the absence of the CT Tech after completing competency.
Demonstrates knowledge and instrumentation of specialized modality, i.e. CT scan, mammography, Bone Densitometry, Interventional Cardiac Cath procedures, Phlebotomy, Clinical Vital signs recording, MA skills as related to off-site locations.
Operates specialized equipment associated with specific modalities.
Utilizes appropriate procedures and protocols in Imaging modalities to produce high-quality exams.
Assists physicians during studies as needed.
Phlebotomy Lab testing
Collects pediatric and adult blood specimens.
Checks patient identification and correctly labels specimens.
Can complete special test requirements collection or handling and demonstrates the ability to acquire necessary information relative to testing.
MA Skills for Off-site locations
Urgent Care
Perform all MA Skills as appropriate for the location assigned.
Document in the IT system for that location in the patients HER.
Provide all other competencies and related skills to assist with the operation of that area.
Monitors evaluates equipment performance.
Evaluates images for technical quality.
Quality Assurance compliance.
Reports and documents equipment problems.
Adheres to standards of radiation protection according to ALARA, monitors personal film badges, minimizes patient exposure, and documents exposure factors.
Participates in individual and department repeat-reject analysis programs.
Obtains informed consent when applicable.
Accurately enters all patient data into the ITIS system to ensure accurate exam coding relating to orders, documentation, appointments, lab results, image archival, patient-related documentation for EHR.
Understand technical aspects of the phone system to manage phone calls properly.
Welcomes visitors by verbally acknowledging and offering assistance immediately upon entry.
Inquires to understand the reason for the visit and respond appropriately based on their needs.
Uses IT IS systems to schedule book review and ensure Patient Access Scheduling can appropriately book appointments for Imaging patients and departments.
Prints Reviews schedules for reconciliation of orders and protocols. If needed, initiates blocking of the schedule to only Emergent Add-on status until the actual date.
Schedules reviews Imaging exams studies and procedures for all modalities and patients add-ons walk-ins and as needed.
Reports Reviews scheduled appointments with Radiologists Technologists and Radiology Nurses to coordinate resources and patient care coordination.
Completes scheduled events initiated by Central Scheduling with a review of the written order.
Locates orders obtains & documents previous modality-specific imaging from outside facilities.
Verifies accuracy of medical diagnosis reason for exam" for all patient orders and exams before transcribing orders into IT system as well as physicians order and schedule using available resources.
Processes all pertinent forms and documentation and forwards to Front Office to be scanned into the EHR for documentation.
If needed Works with the I.S. Dept. regarding all computer problems & system updates functions as department I.S. facilitator after-hours weekends and holidays in the absence of the Director or other appropriate staff.
Facilitates Imaging scheduling & maintenance as needed.
Assists in new staff orientation as assigned.
Attends departmental staff meetings and reads and signs off on minutes of meetings not attended.
Fulfills mandatory CEU requirements as required by the State of Maine Board of Radiology licensing guidelines.
Completes annual critical competencies identified for assigned department.
Participates in self-evaluation process.
Maintains complete knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, emergency plans, and exposure control plans.
Maintains drug boxes, emergency equipment in assigned areas following established protocol.
Assists in inventory control in assigned areas or location.
Maintains required licenses, certifications, and competencies and completes annual compliance courses on time.
