Radiology Manager - MRI - Full-Time - Days – Outpatient Imaging

Under the supervision of the Site Administrator, you will direct daily operations of MRI services at our 710 West 168th Street Center — six GE MR systems (five 3T, one 1.5T) operating Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., supporting high-volume outpatient imaging and active research protocols. You will lead a staff of 30 FTEs and be accountable for accurate, timely imaging results, technical and departmental quality, and cost-effective patient care in compliance with center and regulatory standards.

 

This is a patient-facing leadership role. Beyond daily operations and team management, you will work directly with patients to resolve concerns, ensure smooth flow through the department, and uphold our standard of compassionate care.

Schedule: This is a day-shift position. The MRI department operates Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Managers are expected to maintain visibility across all operating hours and provide periodic on-site support outside standard business hours to ensure effective oversight of evening and weekend operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct daily technical operations across six magnets; schedule supervisory coverage, ensure staffing levels, recommend and approve overtime, and approve paid time off.
• Ensure all medical, technical, nursing, and other personnel working in the MR environment are appropriately educated on MR safety requirements on a regular basis, with updated information as necessary.
• Serve as point person for ACR accreditation applications and image submission.
• Recruit, select, orient, and develop staff; provide work direction and on-the-job training; conduct performance evaluations and recommend personnel actions up to and including termination, in accordance with hospital policy and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
• Monitor compliance with Center standards and policies, including patient confidentiality, infection control, hazardous waste management, and fire safety; ensure incident reports are accurately documented.
• Execute productivity reports and provide guidance in the selection, procurement, and installation of equipment.
• Control and order supplies; ensure proper storage and accurate inventory control.
• Coordinate with IT resources on installation and security; troubleshoot PACS and RIS issues.
• Serve as escalation point for patient concerns and service recovery.
• Collaborate with radiologists, referring physicians, and research teams to coordinate clinical and protocol imaging.
• Perform other special projects and duties as assigned.

Preferred Criteria

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
• MR Safety Officer (MRSO) certification through American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS)
• Experience in an academic medical center or research imaging environment
• Experience leading unionized and/or collectively bargained teams

Required Criteria

• Graduate of AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology
• Certification by one of the following:
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in appropriate modalities (e.g., X-Ray, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, etc.)
  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMTCB)
  • American Registry of MRI Technologists (ARMRIT)
• Minimum four years of related clinical experience in radiology
• Minimum two years of experience in a supervisory capacity
