Job Summary

A Radiology Student Extern is defined as a person who is a full-time student in an accredited Radiology Tech program and works at the hospital in addition to their clinical studies. Under supervision of Licensed Radiology Tech, the extern performs basic tasks, which have been learned in class and practiced in the School setting. These tasks have also been practiced with demonstrated competency during clinical rotations at a Tenet hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patient data before procedure (DOB, age, and history) and explains procedure to be performed, facilitates patients' cooperation and alleviates anxiety.
  • Transfers patient to exam table; ensures proper covering of patient according to policy and procedure
  • Arranges, attaches, or adjusts immobilization and support devices according to procedure, ensuring limitation of patient movement
  • Demonstrates satisfactory positioning and equipment knowledge; consistently produces radiographs of diagnostic quality
  • Always demonstrates working knowledge and proficiency with imaging equipment, including, but not limited to portables, c-arms, tomography, fluoroscopy, head unit, and general radiographic equipment
  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Must be a full-time student in good standing in an accredited Radiology Tech program

  • Experience:

  • Successful completion of academic and clinical competencies, specific for each task.

  • Certifications/Registrations/Licenses:

  • American Heart Association BLS CPR required, must be obtained within 7 days of hire.
