BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Performs a variety of diagnostic procedures utilizing ionizing radiation for diagnosis of disease processes and delineation of both normal/abnormal anatomy as well as pathological conditions in areas of the human body.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities: NO

Minimum Education: High School/GED Required.

License/Certification Required: Certified and maintains BLS 

Minimum Work Experience: New graduate or 1 year of general radiology experience required. Pediatric experience preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Patient Preparation and Support: 

    • Greet and escort patients to radiology suites, including MRI and general radiology areas, explaining procedures to alleviate concerns and ensure comfort. 

    • Screen patients for MRI safety, reviewing medical history and ensuring no contraindications (e.g., metal implants, pacemakers). 

    • Prepare patients for all radiology exams, including MRI and general radiology procedures, as appropriate (e.g., assisting with changing into gowns, securing belongings). 

    • Demonstrate the skills and judgment necessary to provide care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel. 

    • Foster and encourage the principles of Child and Family-centered care, including communication, orientation, and implementation of family-centered care actions and projects. 

    • MRI Level 2 Chaperone Responsibilities: 

    • Act as a secondary safety monitor during MRI scans, ensuring compliance with MRI safety protocols under the supervision of the MRI technologist. 

    • Monitor patients during MRI scans for signs of distress or discomfort and communicate observations to the technologist. 

    • Assist in positioning patients correctly on the MRI table and ensuring proper use of safety equipment (e.g., ear protection, call bells). 

    • Patient Transport: 

    • Transport patients by stretcher, wheelchair, or other conveyance to and from Radiology when needed, ensuring safe and timely movement. 

    • Equipment and Room Preparation: 

    • Prepare and clean radiology suites (including MRI and general radiology areas) and equipment before and after procedures, following infection control protocols. 

    • Stock supplies, such as linens, gowns, and MRI-compatible accessories, to ensure availability for procedures. 

    • Assist in maintaining a safe and organized radiology environment, including removing ferromagnetic objects from MRI scan areas. 

    • Administrative and Clerical Support: 

    • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments for radiology exams, communicating with patients and staff as needed. 

    • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations. 

    • Assist with data entry and communication between radiology staff and other departments. 

    • Demonstrate the skills and judgment necessary to provide non-direct patient care/support services under the direction of licensed personnel. 

    • Collaboration and Professional Conduct: 

    • Work closely with radiologic technologists, radiologists, and other healthcare staff to ensure smooth workflow in both MRI and general radiology settings. 

    • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members to provide clear instructions and updates. 

    • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. 

    • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
