Job Summary

Operates diagnostic radiologic equipment to produce radiographic images of the body. Operates one or more specialized radiographic equipment such as Screening Mammography, Computerized Tomography, and/or Magnetic Resonance Imaging for diagnostic purposes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Position patients and adjust immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified areas of the body as requested by physicians.
  • Explain procedures to patients to facilitate understanding, cooperation, and reduce anxiety.
  • Administer appropriate pharmaceuticals as required by procedures, place IVs, and administer enemas as necessary.
  • Practice radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and others.
  • Move radiographic equipment into specified positions and adjust equipment controls to set graphic exposure factors, such as time and distance, based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols.
  • Obtain acceptable radiographic images using appropriate Computerized Radiology and/or CR/DR techniques and protocols.
  • Acquire and disseminate patient information data for exam orders using the Hospital EMR System.
  • Document information in patient charts as required.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure proper operating status of equipment.
  • Report equipment malfunctions according to established protocols.
  • Maintain examination rooms and stock necessary medical and radiologic supplies as per established protocols.
  • Exercise independent judgment in planning sequences of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field.
  • Collaborate directly with patients and/or customers, and work with internal customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction.
  • Coordinate with other healthcare professionals and staff.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols, CR/Film screen exposure techniques and protocols, Computerized Tomography, Mammography, and/or Magnetic Resonance Imaging technical principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to properly administer pharmaceuticals intravenously for imaging procedures.
  • Knowledge of sharps usage practices and techniques.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to integrate the analysis of data to develop knowledge, concepts, or interpretations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and efficiently.
  • Detail-oriented as required in the examination of clinical and numerical data.

Required Education

  • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.

Required Certification & Licensure

  • Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Current CPR Certification.

Additional Requirements

  • 1-2 Years of CT and X-Ray experience.
  • BLS certified through AHA.

Systems and Equipment Experience

  • Experience with Epic, McKesson EMR, Samsung Equipment, and Siemens CT.
