Job Details:

The Radiology Technologist is primarily responsible for equipment used during all Cath Lab and EP Lab cases and to function as a scrub tech. Under the direction of the electrophysiologist and/or cardiologist, performs various electrophysiology, Cath Lab and radiology services. Assists electrophysiologists and/or cardiologists as needed during procedures. Acquires the knowledge and skills to assist in the performance of all other procedures and new technologies, which arise during the course of research and development of new procedures, products and equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Properly identifies patients using the two hospital-wide patient safety identifiers.
  • Maintains standards of care under the guidance of attending physician.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of x-ray and digital equipment and able to trouble-shoot when necessary.
  • Performs procedures in scrub positions based on established departmental competencies, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides assistance to physicians or other technologists in the performance of more complex procedures.
  • Follows precise procedures for exposure, positioning, and safety of patients.
  • Positions x-ray equipment and adjust controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance.
  • Exhibits knowledge of patient anatomy.
  • Handles emergency situations during high-risk procedures in a competent and professional manner.
  • Positions patient on examining table and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body part as requested by physician.
  • Maintains and cleans department and departmental equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Operates diagnostic imaging equipment to produce contrast-enhanced radiographs of heart and cardiovascular system.
  • Assists physician during all Cath Lab and EP Lab procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency of the following EP procedures: EP studies, ablations, lead extractions, implants, explants, etc.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency of the following Cath Lab procedures: Left and Right Heart Cath, Grafts, Temporary Transvenous Pacemaker, Filterwire, IVUS, Rotablator, Impella, IABP, Swan Ganz, single and multiple pressure transducer systems, etc.
  • Uses beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques.
  • Operates C-arm when necessary.
  • Provides orientation, education and training to new Cath Lab/EP Lab techs.
  • Burns/copies CDs and transport patients through department.
  • Demonstrates clear knowledge necessary to provide patient care by ensuring all equipment and supplies are available for procedure(s).

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience: Minimum 2 years experience in Electrophysiology and/or Cardiac Cath Lab required.

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of radiology.

Licenses / Certifications: New York State X-Ray License with Certification to Inject, registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology. Current BLS required.

Other: Required to work in areas where there is potential radiation exposure (monitored by radiation badges.)When on call for heart stats for the Cath Lab, required to arrive at work within 30 minutes, regardless of weather conditions.
