Position Summary

(Lawson's Off Campus Instructional Site- University of Alabama at Birmingham)

The Radiology Technology Instructor must be highly competent and proficient in the professional practice of radiography. The instructor must exemplify professionalism in radiography and adhere to professional practice standards and best practices. The instructor should have knowledge and experience in Mammography, Computed Tomography, Angiography/interventional, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The instructor will need to be familiar with utilizing medical radiology techniques to assist students with gathering and analyzing data in order to diagnose medical conditions and diseases. Responsible for preparing students for a competent entry level service in the healthcare community of diagnostic radiologic technology and create opportunities for graduate success in the profession of Radiology Technology. Responsible for oversight of the Radiologic Technology program and coordinates efforts to achieve and maintain JRCERT standards.

Salary Schedule Placement: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule D1 IB-IV ($42,108- $94,363) based on education and experience. Summer appointments are based on enrollment- Salary Schedule D1 ($13,001 - $29,184) based on education and experience. Annual Potential Salary including Summer Appointment ($55,109- $123,547)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach 30-35 credit hours per semester and/or the equivalent in non-credit hours or a combination of the credit and non-credit course offerings.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Instructor must be available to teaching in day, night, weekend classes, and training opportunities if necessary.
  • Maintain and conduct scheduled office hours for student conferences.
  • Prepare and maintain current course syllabus according to the College's guidelines.
  • Develop and implement a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and is consistent with local and state plan or study and curriculum guides.
  • Facilitate student learning with a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which are compatible with the physical facility but serve the needs and capabilities of the students.
  • Plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and capabilities of the students.
  • Clinical experiences with the healthcare industry.
  • Perform supervision, instruction, and evaluation of student learning to include tracking and maintaining records on student progress.
  • Develop and establish collaboration with local affiliated clinical sites to find placement for RAD students.
  • Prepare and maintain program budget
  • Maintain lab equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare program course offerings for schedule for each semester.
  • Develop and evaluate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for instructional specialty.
  • Collaborate with Health Professions Division to develop and implement divisional goals.
  • Good knowledge of institution's program of studies related to mission, goals and organization.
  • Update and revise courses in collaboration with the appropriate administrators and faculty as necessary as well as the recommendation from the advisory board.
  • Maintain contact with business and industry and other potential employers.
  • Recruit students into program and advise through completion.
  • Serve on divisional, institutional, and state-wide committees as appointed.
  • Work with college ADA coordinator to provide appropriate accommodation for identified students.
  • Respond to student inquiries within face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid learning environment.
  • Demonstrate high standards of professional practice in radiologic technology and serves as role model for students.
  • Possess current knowledge of emerging technologies, equipment, and procedures in medical imaging.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in radiology technology or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning
  • Three (3) years of documented full-time experience as a technician in radiology
  • One(1) year of leadership/managerial experience

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:

  • Documentation of credentials earned in radiologic sciences or radiologic technology
  • Certification as a registered radiologic technician (i.e. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART)
  • Two (2) years of experience as an instructor in a JRCERT program or completion of a JRCERT workshop.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, and online documentation)
  • Ability to effectively respond to questions from supervisors, faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to travel as required by the College.

Sick Leave

All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Retirement

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. Tuition Assistance

This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

Salary Acknowledgment -Faculty I acknowledge that this position has an established salary range and that initial salary placement will not exceed the maximum. Initial salary placement is determined by education, work experience, and grants full (1:1) credit for prior work experience in Alabama public schools, colleges, and adult education programs, and one-half (2:1) credit for related full-time experience outside of Alabama public education. Faculty appointments are for nine (9) months, with a potential three (3)-month summer appointment based on enrollment.
