Job Type: 6 months Contract-to-permanent
Pay: $26.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday

Available Shifts

• 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
• 3rd Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Rail Car Technicians to join a growing rail maintenance team in the Bronx, NY. This hands-on role is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of rail cars to ensure they operate safely and reliably. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and/or electrical experience and enjoys working in a team-oriented maintenance environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on rail cars and rail vehicle systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
• Repair and replace components including brakes, doors, HVAC systems, couplers, motors, wiring, lighting, and other rail car equipment.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Conduct inspections and functional testing to ensure equipment meets quality and safety standards.
• Use hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and diagnostic equipment.
• Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and established maintenance procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors and fellow technicians to meet production and maintenance goals.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Rail Car Technician, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Industrial Maintenance Technician, Automotive Technician, Aircraft Mechanic, or similar mechanical/electrical role.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with electrical troubleshooting experience preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a physically demanding environment.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Experience

• Rail, transit, locomotive, or heavy equipment maintenance.
• Diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, or electrical systems.
• Welding, fabrication, or machining experience is a plus.
• Experience working in a manufacturing, transportation, aerospace, military, or industrial maintenance environment.
