Railcar Welding & Mechanical Technician (Carman)

What your day looks like

You arrive on site, review the work orders, and get right to work restoring reliability to our railcar fleet. One hour you’re laying clean, precise welds on a structural component; the next, you’re tracing a mechanical fault from symptom to root cause and putting a lasting fix in place. Throughout the day, you coordinate with teammates to keep projects moving, document each step you take, and maintain a tidy, safe bay.

How you’ll make an impact

• Carry out metal fabrication and welding on a variety of parts and assemblies.
• Perform scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance on railcars and related equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical problems and execute effective, durable repairs.
• Work closely with fellow craftspeople to meet timelines and quality targets.
• Keep the work area organized and strictly follow all safety procedures.
• Record maintenance and repair details with accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with coaching and supporting junior team members as needed.

What you bring

• High school diploma or GED; vocational training in welding or mechanics is a plus.
• Hands-on experience in both welding and mechanical repair, ideally on rail/rolling stock or heavy equipment.
• Solid command of welding processes and mechanical systems.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Strong diagnostic mindset and meticulous attention to detail.
• Clear communicator and dependable teammate.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check.
