Job Description
The Ramp Agent is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and professional ground support for Qavvik Air operations at the Kotzebue base. This is a hands-on position supporting passenger, baggage, cargo, aircraft, and facility operations in a dynamic aviation environment.
The Ramp Agent works directly with flight crews, Customer Service personnel, Operational Control, maintenance personnel, vendors, and other Qavvik Air employees to ensure aircraft are safely and efficiently prepared for departure and properly serviced upon arrival.
This position routinely requires work outdoors in Arctic weather conditions and around operating aircraft, vehicles, machinery, and ground-support equipment. Safety, situational awareness, reliability, teamwork, and the ability to work independently are essential.
Responsibilities
Aircraft Ground Handling:
Marshal aircraft into and out of designated parking areas when trained and
Assist with aircraft arrival, parking, securing, and departure
Install and remove wheel chocks, cones, covers, plugs, and other aircraft ground equipment as appropriate.
Assist flight crews with aircraft loading and
Maintain awareness of aircraft movement, propeller hazards, jet blast, vehicles, equipment, passengers, and other hazards while working on the ramp.
Maintain Foreign Object Debris/Damage (FOD) awareness and conduct routine inspections of ramp and aircraft operating areas.
Immediately report aircraft damage, suspected damage, spills, safety concerns, or other abnormalities to the appropriate supervisor or flight crew.
Assist with positioning aircraft within the hangar or designated parking areas when trained and authorized.
Assist with approved aircraft ground-support activities as
Baggage and Cargo Handling:
Load and unload passenger baggage, freight, mail, supplies, and other
Transport baggage and cargo between aircraft, hangar, terminal/customer areas, vehicles, and designated storage locations.
Weigh baggage and cargo as required and provide accurate weights to appropriate Qavvik Air personnel.
Assist with sorting, organizing, staging, palletizing, and securing cargo for
Ensure baggage and cargo are routed to the appropriate aircraft, flight, customer, or storage location.
Exercise appropriate care when handling passenger baggage, medical equipment, freight, frozen goods, and other customer property.
Immediately report damaged, missing, improperly packaged, leaking, or otherwise questionable baggage or cargo.
Assist with maintaining accurate baggage and cargo counts when
Assist with the acceptance and storage of cargo in accordance with company
Handle hazardous materials only when appropriately trained, qualified, and authorized.
Passenger Assistance:
Provide courteous and professional assistance to Qavvik Air
Assist passengers traveling between designated passenger areas and
Assist flight crews with safely directing passengers during aircraft boarding and
Provide additional assistance to passengers requiring mobility or other reasonable assistance.
Maintain positive control and situational awareness whenever passengers are present on or near the aircraft operating area.
Immediately notify appropriate personnel of passenger concerns or issues requiring additional assistance.
Aircraft and Operational Support:
Assist flight crews with preparing aircraft for scheduled and unscheduled
Assist with loading company supplies, survival equipment, medical equipment, and other operational materials when directed.
Assist with aircraft cleaning and cabin preparation when
Assist with snow and ice removal from ramp, hangar, passenger, and operational areas using approved methods and equipment.
Assist with the movement and positioning of ground-support
Operate company vehicles and ground-support equipment only when properly trained, authorized, and qualified.
Assist with aircraft fueling activities only when appropriately trained and authorized by Qavvik Air.
Support charter and MEDEVAC operations assigned while respecting the responsibilities and authority of flight crews, medical personnel, Maintenance, and Operational
Other duties as determined and needed by the company.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Current driver's license with an acceptable driving record meeting company insurance requirements.
Ability to obtain and maintain required airport identification, security credentials, and driving privileges.
Ability to successfully complete required company safety, security, HAZMAT, equipment, and ramp training.
Ability to safely work around aircraft, vehicles, machinery, and ground-support equipment.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, flight crews, passengers, and customers.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when operationally necessary.
Previous aviation, airport, warehouse, freight, cargo, construction, equipment-operation, or similar experience is preferred but not required.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Outdoors throughout the year in Kotzebue, Alaska, including during cold temperatures, snow, ice, wind, precipitation, darkness, and rapidly changing weather conditions. Work is routinely performed around operating aircraft, propellers, vehicles, machinery, fuel, exhaust, and ground-support equipment.
Noise level: The employee will routinely work in moderate-to-high noise environments associated with aircraft and airport operations. Appropriate hearing protection and other PPE must be worn when required.
Physical requirements: The employee must be able to:
Routinely stand and walk for extended periods.
Bend, climb, kneel, crouch, push, pull, reach, and perform repetitive physical movements.
Frequently lift and carry baggage, cargo, equipment, and supplies.
Lift and/or move up to 75 pounds independently and heavier objects with appropriate assistance or equipment.
Safely climb into and around aircraft baggage and cargo compartments.
Work on snow-covered, icy, wet, uneven, or slippery surfaces.
Perform physical duties while wearing appropriate cold-weather clothing and PPE.
Maintain sufficient visual and auditory awareness to safely work around aircraft and moving equipment.
Travel: Employee may travel up to 10% to various locations within Alaska/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, and ATVs.
