INDEFINITE POSITION - MAY NOT BECOME PERMANENT This position is a time limited indefinite resource. Permanent employees that apply, if selected, will lose permanent tenure.

Duties

Help

As a RANGE OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN (TITLE 32), GS-0303-7, you will assist in the daily operations of range control and provide maintenance support to targets and other live fire enablers.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:

  • Serve as a point of contact for information regarding training center range operations.
  • Maintain the Ranch Branch equipment records.
  • Assist Range Management Authority (RMA) with range maintenance cost input to the annual range operations budget.
  • Assist in developing standard operating procedures for use and operation of facilities.
  • Assist in schedule deconfliction of training center facilities.
  • Facilitate simulation training exercises.
  • Provide maintenance support during live fire training exercises.
  • Operational support for all ranges to include preventative maintenance of all automated targeting systems.
  • Ensure that controls, target mechanisms, and all other target effects (thermal, movement, battle effects simulators, etc.) are operational prior to and after use.
  • Conduct range, training land, and facility inspections to identify unsafe conditions.
  • Dissemination of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS), Notices to Public, and training directives. Receives concept of operations (CONOPS), range safety memos, and DD Form 2977s, Deliberate Risk Assessment Worksheets, from training units.
  • Plan and execute range support and maintenance operations.

  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:

  • The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
  • The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
  • The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
  • The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
  • The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.

Military Grades: MIN RANK SPC - MAX RANK SSG

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess the experience, education, or training to perform progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-07 Level - MUST possess the experience, education, or training equivalent to at least 1 year in the lower-level grade level GS-06, performing technical work which requires knowledge of the procedures, established guidelines, and techniques involved in carrying out the work of the organization such as: preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and maintaining records.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Army, as one of the three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) reporting to the Department of Defense, is composed of two distinct and equally important components: the active component and the reserve components. The reserve components are the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.

Regardless of component, the Army conducts both operational and institutional missions. The operational Army consists of numbered armies, corps, divisions, brigades, and battalions that conduct full spectrum operations around the world. The institutional Army supports the operational Army. Institutional organizations provide the infrastructure necessary to raise, train, equip, deploy, and ensure the readiness of all Army forces. The training base provides military skills and professional education to every Soldier—as well as members of sister services and allied forces. It also allows the Army to expand rapidly in time of war. The industrial base provides world-class equipment and logistics for the Army. Once those forces are deployed, the institutional Army provides the logistics needed to support them.

Without the institutional Army, the operational Army cannot function. Without the operational Army, the institutional Army has no purpose.
