Position Summary:

Material Handler is responsible for ensuring the proper and accurate transfer of plastic material and/or mixture of materials are delivered to each machine for processing.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility Include

  • Properly setup, maintain and cleanup machines.
  • Maintain cleanliness various machines and hoses, as well as production floor and material areas.
  • Make material and color changes in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a proper flow of material to be used in the molding process at all times i.e. raw materials.
  • Maintain proper rotation of raw material and components.
  • Read, understand and follow all (200 Series) Drug Plastics Operating Procedures relating to the Material Handling Function.

 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Break down incoming bulk shipments of materials for storage and/or use for immediate production requirements in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Clean flexible feel lines, hoses and various machinery, including blow molding machines, grinders, blenders, regrind bins, and material hoppers at the completion of each job to ensure that no material contamination occurs.
  • Check feed lines periodically to ensure the flow of proper material to each machine as outlined in the Daily Master Production Schedule.
  • Identify and properly use production resins and concentrates.
  • Correctly select from stock, and where required, accurately create “mixes” of plastic materials and additives for each production run as specified in customer requirements and DPG production order.
  • Correctly connect vacuum loaders, material lines, hoses and other systems to correctly convey proper raw materials to each production machine for processing.
  • Gather post industrial materials from the production floor using hand truck/cart. Separate materials as required, properly identify by labeling and place materials in proper area for storage, or disposal or use. Weigh all post industrial materials and record all necessary information on appropriate departmental forms.
  • Grind rejected product and other materials using proper grinders.
  • Assure that material mixing bins and Gaylords remain filled with proper material(s) at all times.
  • Keep production floor supplied with caps, bags, tape, layer board and other supplies as needed.
  • As necessary, perform routine maintenance on grinders and hoppers including but not limited to, the replacement of filters, blades and belts, and performing lubrications, as necessary.
  • Effectively and fully communicate any problems with material handler(s) on the upcoming shift.
  • Maintain all areas around equipment and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
  • Undertake personal responsibility to become, and remain fully qualified to perform all aspects of the position as outlined in the Job Competencies for the Position of Material Handler.
  • Follow safety guidelines, Company policies and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Other duties as assigned such as back -up in Material, Sorting Room & Quality.

 

Job Requirements

  • Good mathematical skills to perform basic math calculations, to include addition and subtraction.
  • Understand and effectively be able to use Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Ability to accurately/efficiently sort and classify material.
  • Demonstrated ability to make well thought out decisions and ensures appropriate courses of action are taken.
  • Must provide own basic mechanic hand tools to perform the required job duties effectively and as assigned.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced working environment and under pressure.

 

Education and Experience

  • Previous manufacturing environment experience preferred.
  • Plastics industry experience a plus.

 

Physical Demands

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.   • The employee must have good motor skills and be able to frequently lift 30lbs. The employee must be able to occasionally carry 75 lbs.
  • The employee is required to occasionally bend, squat and climb; and frequently reach above shoulder level; as well as turn, twist, pull, and push.
  • Ability to work on ladders and scaffolds.
  • Ability to drive a forklift.
