The READ USA AmeriCorps Tutor Leader Program is dedicated to improving literacy rates among elementary students in Title 1 schools within Duval County. By providing book choice and ownership, one-to-one literacy tutoring, multicultural literacy programming, professional literacy development, and workforce development preparation, the program aims to enhance reading proficiency and reduce poverty. AmeriCorps Tutor Leaders play a crucial role in delivering high-quality reading lessons, mentoring peer tutors, and supporting students'' literacy development. They receive comprehensive training in trust-based relational intervention methods and professional development, equipping them with the skills necessary to make a significant impact. The program focuses on building sustainable organizational infrastructure to expand READ USA's services to new communities. Through their service, Tutor Leaders will help ensure over 50,000 elementary children, over 1,500 teens, and hundreds of teachers have access to essential literacy resources, ultimately contributing to the overall goal of solving illiteracy and improving community well-being. Member Duties : Members will complete 3 days of initial training and then be placed at an elementary school in Duval County. Members will deliver after-school tutoring to students who are behind in reading. Duties include tutoring students, completing paperwork neatly, organized, and on time, and working well in a team environment. Corps Members will receive workforce development training monthly and participate in service projects in the local community.
