Description of Work The purpose of this position is to teach content focused on improving basic skills in core reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics areas through individual, small group, and whole class instruction, providing targeted remediation and enrichment as needed. The intent of this position is to deliver direct remedial instruction to offenders aged 18 to 22 to support their attainment of a high school equivalency diploma.

This position is located within the academic school at Richmond Correctional Institution, Hoffman, NC, Richmond County. Reporting to the School Principal, the Reading and Math Interventionist is a core member of the academic team responsible for implementing and monitoring the schools vision, mission, values, and goals. The teacher must be skilled at organizing and delivering education curricula to groups of students of all ages, creating a flexible program and a learning environment that supports each students abilities and personal growth within a medium custody male correctional facility. The teacher will also perform any additional duties assigned by the principal.

Compensation for all certified educators working for NCDAC in school educator positions is based on the NC Department of Public Instructions Salary Schedule. This schedule is approved annually by the NC General Assembly and sets pay based on the educators years of experience and education level.
About Richmond Correctional Institution Located on a 175-acre tract in Hoffman, NC, near Rockingham, Richmond County, Richmond Correctional Institution houses up to 833 male offenders, primarily between 18 and 25 years of age, in medium and minimum custody. The prison provides vocational classes in brick masonry, electric service, industrial maintenance, upholstery, and cooking. Offenders may also attend school with instruction provided by DAC teachers and Richmond Community College instructors; instruction focuses on adult education and preparation for high school equivalency tests, as well as life skills and transition services. Richmond Correctional Institution is home to one of the prison systems four schools for young adult offenders.

The successful applicant must possess a bachelors degree or above from an appropriately accredited college in the teaching area associated with this position and must hold a current, non-expired State of North Carolina Professional Educators License (Class Code A, M, S, or D) with certification in the area of reading, English language arts, or mathematics at the elementary or middle school level; OR certification 25881 EC - General Curriculum grades K-6 or in an area of Exceptional Children license codes 88, including but not limited to EC English, EC Math, Cross Categorical, Learning Disabled, or Special Education General Curriculum; or be eligible to obtain an Emergency or Residency teaching license or Provisional Certification in the aforementioned certification areas.
