Description
Reading Design Coach
Reports to: Principal
Purpose: The Elementary Reading Coach will support and elevate literacy instruction in our elementary schools. The Elementary Reading Coach will collaborate with teachers, providing expertise, resources, and professional development to ensure the delivery of effective and research-based literacy instruction. This role involves responsibilities such as modeling, feedback, co-teaching, support for coaching cycles, and curricular development, with a direct emphasis on the science of reading principles. Within this role, the instructional coach will also support the fidelity and alignment of professional learning communities with district expectations.
Qualifications
5+ years proven successful elementary classroom experience
Deep knowledge of researched based reading, writing and literacy development, and successful implementation in a classroom environment
Solid interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration) to share research based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring and coaching
Experience in delivering effective professional development
Ability to create and conduct customized professional development
Strong organizational skills
Master's degree preferred
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide personalized, classroom-based support to implement the Rowan-Salisbury School System's Literacy Plan. This will include:
Develop, implement and lead professional development opportunities and professional research and reading
Coaching and modeling of best teaching practices through demonstration lessons
Guide teachers to collect and analyze data and develop instructional plans in response to determined student needs
Collaborate with the school's administration to design, implement, and assess school change initiatives to ensure alignment and focus on intended results for reading
Plan, develop, implement and lead professional development opportunities and professional research and reading
Other duties as identified by the district administration in support of the Rowan-Salisbury School System's Literacy Plan
