Real Estate Accountant to join its growing real estate accounting team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional who wants to build a strong foundation in
real estate accounting, public company reporting, financial reporting, and REIT operations. The position offers exposure to a diverse real estate portfolio and the opportunity to work cross-functionally with Accounting, Treasury, Tax, Legal, and Investment teams.
The Real Estate Accountant will support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, account reconciliations, financial reporting, lease accounting, and a variety of special projects.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for real estate and REIT entities.
Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
Review lease agreements and related documentation to support appropriate accounting treatment.
Assist with quarterly and annual SEC and financial reporting packages.
Maintain property-level and entity-level accounting records.
Prepare and analyze balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations.
Support intercompany accounting, including distributions, contributions, and settlement activities.
Analyze lessee financial reporting and compliance packages while building relationships to improve financial communication with lessees.
Support debt compliance and lender reporting requirements.
Partner with Treasury, Tax, Lease, Legal, and Investment teams to gather information and resolve accounting matters.
Participate in annual audits and respond to auditor requests.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
Perform ad hoc analysis and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2-3 years of accounting experience; internships and/or public accounting experience are welcome.
Strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles and U.S. GAAP.
Interest in real estate, REITs, and public company accounting.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis functions.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Team-oriented mentality with a desire to learn and grow professionally.
CPA eligibility or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
