Real Estate Data Analyst

Overview

Global Workplace Services (GWS) plans, delivers, and operates Microsofts global real estate portfolio of approximately 40 million square feet (SF). Trusted data is the foundation for how GWS monitors performance, plans its portfolio, and makes enterprise real estate decisions, and that foundation is only as reliable as the cleanliness and integrity of the data behind it.

The Real Estate Data Analyst is the accountable owner of the day-to-day data-management and data-quality function for the GWS real estate portfolio, consolidating the hands-on data cleanliness, validation, reference-data, and single-source-of-truth work into one role, with supporting analytics and reporting as a secondary component. It executes against the analytics standards defined by the Portfolio Strategy, Transactions & Analytics lead, while data-foundation strategy and architecture sit with GWS Platforms leadership.

Responsibilities

Data Governance - Collection, Cleanliness, & Validation

• Own and run the data validation framework across GWS real estate data: attendance & headcount data and forecasts; audit, map, and clean up portfolio, projects, buildings, lease, and space records across source systems, and reconcile discrepancies to a single source of truth.
• Maintain business reference values and mappings for Finance (cost centers, internal orders, and plant codes) and the business (taxonomy, approvals, and status values), and support building-to-plant-code cleanup and SAP alignment.
• Own the recurring audit, mapping, and cleanup cycles; apply and refine validation logic; and identify, flag, and correct errors while reducing duplicate data entry.
• Maintain consistent metric definitions, data dictionaries, and reference materials, and support adherence to data governance, reporting standards, and compliance.
• Track and report data-quality measures such as error rates, correction cycle times, and completeness so data health is visible to stakeholders.

Supporting Analytics & Reporting

• Produce and maintain recurring reporting cadences (for example, weekly and monthly attendance and utilization reports and quarterly refreshes) and build and maintain dashboards, primarily in Power BI.
• Supply clean datasets and supporting analysis and visuals to the Portfolio Strategy, Transactions & Analytics function for scenario planning, demand planning, and transaction-pipeline reporting, working to the specifications that role defines.
• Contribute data, visuals, and analysis to Portfolio Insights sessions and business reviews such as QBRs.

Data Systems, Automation & Partnership

• Partner with GWS data, systems, and technology teams to maintain the health, accuracy, and scalability of portfolio analytics data, including CAFM and IWMS and space-management systems and integrated data pipelines.
• Identify and support automation of validation and error-correction, including AI-assisted or rules-based approaches, to reduce cycle time and manual effort.
• Partner with Portfolio Managers, the Portfolio Strategy, Transactions & Analytics lead, Finance, Procurement, GWS Technology, and the Workplace Research & Standards team to source data, align on definitions, and communicate clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

Required / Minimum Qualifications

• Masters Degree in Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics or related field OR Bachelors Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics or related field AND 2+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with data quality, data validation, data governance, or master-data management, including auditing, mapping, and cleanup of business data.
• Working knowledge of SQL and/or Python or R for data extraction, cleanup, and analysis.
• Familiarity with corporate real estate and workplace data (attendance, occupancy, utilization, space, lease, and projects data) and with CAFM/IWMS, space-management, or ERP systems such as SAP.
• Experience building and maintaining dashboards and recurring reporting cadences in Power BI, or comparable platforms such as Tableau or Looker.
• Attention to detail and the ability to translate data into clear, decision-ready insights; demonstrated interest in the corporate real estate industry.
• Bachelors Degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Finance, Real Estate, Information Systems, Business Management, or related field AND 1+ year(s) of experience in data analytics, data management, business intelligence, reporting, or real estate, portfolio, or workplace-occupancy analysis, OR 2+ years of equivalent experience.
• Proficiency with data analysis and visualization tools, including Microsoft Excel and Power BI.

Data Analytics IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $86,100 - $169,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $113,300 - $187,400 per year.
