About the role

As Receiving Captain, you're the first checkpoint for everything that comes through our doors. You own the intake process end to end — verifying incoming transfers against METRC manifests, inspecting product for accuracy and condition, accepting shipments in the system, and chasing down anything that doesn't add up with our vendors and Purchasing team. When the Vault or BOH team needs a hand, you're there to keep inventory moving.

You will be working closely with the BOH Lead, with oversight from Compliance Manager and General Manager. This is an internal opportunity: if you're a Joyleaf associate in good standing — with the time, attendance, and performance record to back it up — and you're ready to grow into a leadership role, this is your next step.

Please DO NOT apply if you're not already a Joyleaf employee.

Own the Intake Process

  • Verify incoming transfers against METRC manifests — confirming package tags, counts, and item details, match before accepting
  • Inspect every delivery for damage, count accuracy, and expiration dates at intake
  • Accept and log received product into METRC and Sweed, with accurate RFID tagging
  • Own chain-of-custody documentation so every package has a clean paper trail

Keep Product Moving

  • Reconcile discrepancies with vendors and the Purchasing team, and follow them through to resolution
  • Lead the team through the compliant processing of incoming products. Ensuring the inventory is accurately labeled, made available to customers, and back stocked.
  • Train associates on intake and compliance procedures
  • Provide real-time feedback to the team on internal processes. Ability to identify and coach performance and compliance opportunities.
  • Support the team in necessary departments based on customer flow

What We're Looking For

You'll do well in this role if you:

  • Are wired for accuracy — manifests, counts, tags, dates
  • Stay organized and methodical when several deliveries land at once
  • Communicate clearly with vendors, supervisors, and the Vault and Management team
  • Spot a discrepancy before it becomes a compliance problem
  • Take ownership of a clean, defensible paper trail

You'll also need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • To be 21 or older (a New Jersey requirement for dispensary work)
  • Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

You'llThrive If…

Our four values — empowerment, empathy and compassion, joy, and excellence — aren't posters on the wall. It's how we hire, how we coach, and how we treat each other and every guest who walks through the door. As Receiving Captain, you live them in the details — the accuracy that protects our license, and the reliability that lets the whole team trust what's on the shelf.

The Internal Hiring Process

Here's what to expect when you apply:

  1. Review of Time, Attendance & Performance Record.
  2. A short online assessment focused on operational judgment, accuracy, and leadership scenarios.
  3. In-person interview with Joyleaf management.
  4. A short working session where you can experience the role in real time and we can see you in action.

The Physical Part

Receiving is hands-on work. You'll be on your feet for most of your shift, moving between the receiving area, the Vault, and Sales Floor. You'll regularly lift and carry boxes up to 10 lbs, and occasionally up to 30 lbs. You'll also spend time at a computer managing METRC and Sweed.

Equal Opportunity

Joyleaf is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We're committed to building a team that reflects the community we serve, and a workplace where everyone belongs — regardless of disability, sex, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, age, or veteran status. If you need a reasonable accommodation to apply, interview, or perform the role, please contact us directly.
