Job Overview 

The Receiving Lead provides hands-on leadership and support for daily shipping and receiving operations. This position coordinates the flow of incoming and outgoing materials, ensures accurate processing of shipments and inventory transactions, and serves as a resource for Shipping & Receiving team members. The Shipping & Receiving Lead promotes safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency while helping the department meet customer and business expectations. 

This role acts as a bridge between team members and management by assisting with workflow coordination, training, problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Shipping & Receiving Lead is expected to lead by example and maintain a positive, team-oriented work environment. 

 

 

 

Responsibilities 

Team Leadership & Coordination 

  • Lead daily shipping and receiving activities while promoting a safe and productive work environment. 

  • Coordinate workloads and priorities to ensure timely processing of inbound and outbound shipments. 

  • Train, coach, and support new and existing team members on departmental procedures and best practices. 

  • Assist with cross-training and development opportunities within the department. 

  • Monitor workflow and communicate operational concerns to supervisors and managers. 

  • Serve as a resource for troubleshooting shipping, receiving, inventory, and process-related issues. 

  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the department. 

Shipping & Receiving Operations 

  • Oversee the accurate processing of incoming and outgoing shipments. 

  • Verify shipment documentation, inventory quantities, and order accuracy. 

  • Assist with receiving, put-away, inventory transfers, order fulfillment, and shipping activities as needed. 

  • Ensure daily sales orders are processed, billed, and shipped accurately and on time. 

  • Coordinate dock activities and material movement to support production and customer requirements. 

  • Utilize ERP and inventory systems to process transactions and maintain inventory accuracy. 

Inventory Control & Quality 

  • Support inventory accuracy through proper transaction processing and verification procedures. 

  • Assist with cycle counts, inventory audits, and discrepancy investigations. 

  • Verify materials and shipments meet company quality standards. 

  • Ensure inventory and shipping records are complete and accurate. 

Safety & Continuous Improvement 

  • Conduct all activities in a safe manner and lead by example. 

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment. 

  • Support safety initiatives and compliance with company policies and procedures. 

  • Identify opportunities to improve shipping, receiving, and inventory processes. 

  • Assist management with tracking departmental performance and operational goals. 

Administrative Support 

  • Communicate clearly and accurately with Operations, Production, Customer Service, Purchasing, and other departments. 

  • Assist with reporting, documentation, and inventory records as needed. 

  • Participate in scheduled and impromptu meetings. 

  • Work overtime and support operational needs when .

Essential Functions 

  • Computer literate with strong communication, organizational, and math skills; able to work with Microsoft Office and ERP systems. 

  • Ability to drive a forklift and become certified. 

  • Previous experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, logistics, or inventory control preferred. 

  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and support team members. 

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. 

  • Must be 18 years old; high school diploma preferred. 

  • Detail-oriented with strong inventory and documentation accuracy. 

  • Willingness and understanding that you will get dirty at times and may work with oils, lubricants, and chemicals. 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on your feet for 8+ hours per day. 

  • Have a Can-Do Attitude with strong time management and leadership skills. 

  • Self-starting and motivated; believe in teamwork and uphold the ability to always help others. 

  • Adhere to all safety rules, give it your all every day, and maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
