Summary
As a Storage Truck Driver at Lancaster Leaf Tobacco Company is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers, containers, and equipment within the yard, dock area, and facility grounds. This role supports shipping, receiving, warehouse, and transportation operations by positioning trailers at dock doors, staging loaded and empty trailers, completing yard checks, and maintaining a safe and organized yard environment.
What You'll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
- Safely operate a tractor-trailer to move trailers throughout the yard and between locations.
- Maintain an accurate yard inventory and provide daily updates.
- Move loaded, empty, and staged trailers to designated parking areas, drop lots, or dock locations.
- Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and routine equipment inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns promptly.
- Communicate clearly with management, warehouse staff, dock personnel, supervisors, and outside drivers.
- Follow all company safety policies, traffic flow procedures, speed limits, and yard rules.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard by identifying hazards, reporting issues, and supporting housekeeping standards.
- Complete required paperwork, logs, electronic records, and inspection reports accurately and on time.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support daily transportation, warehouse, and logistics operations.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or college degree.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and valid DOT medical card.
- Clean motor vehicle record and ability to meet company driving standards.
- Ability to safely back, maneuver, couple, and uncouple trailers in tight yard and dock areas.
- Basic knowledge of trailer safety, yard operations, shipping and receiving processes, and equipment inspections.
- Ability to work independently, follow directions, and prioritize trailer moves in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to climb in and out of trucks and trailers repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, pull, push, and lift as required by the position.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
- Ability to work around moving equipment, traffic, loading docks, trailers, and warehouse activity.
- Must be able to maintain awareness of surroundings and follow safe work practices at all times.
Preferred Requirements
- Previous yard jockey, warehouse, distribution, or logistics experience.
- Forklift, pallet jack, or warehouse equipment experience is a plus, if applicable.
- Knowledge of safe loading dock procedures and trailer restraint practices.
