Recovery Coaches provide assistance to customers with mental health, trauma, substance abuse and/or chronic medical conditions.
Essential Duties and Functions:
Provides services in partnership with customers for the specific purpose of achieving increased wellness, recovery, participation, independence, and productivity.
Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
Supports customers in identifying and seeking treatment for underlying mental and physical health conditions that perpetuate addictive behavior.
Utilizes the Recovery Coach’s own unique recovery story.
Provides assistance with appointments, transportation, information, and strategies to help customers with mental health, trauma, substance abuse and/or chronic medical conditions.
Provides services within customers residence and/or within the community setting.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Be a current or past recipient of mental health services with diagnosis having been more than one (1) year ago.
Willingness to share one’s story.
Possess and maintain valid Michigan Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to demonstrate awareness, sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques that reflect an understanding of the social, cultural, and economic diversity of the target population served by Summit Pointe.
Five years’ experience in clinical practice within a behavioral healthcare setting and three years of experience in an administrative/management capacity preferred.
Certification through Michigan’s Peer Recovery Coach Training using the CCAR model is required as well as 2-4 years clean time/sobriety. This certification will be provided by Summit Pointe in conjunction with a credentialed agency upon hire if not already completed.
One year of computer experience – Word, Excel, and electronic medical record software preferred.

A trauma-informed approach to service delivery emphasizes physical and emotional safety, choice, empowerment, and trustworthiness for customers. The impact of trauma is broad and touches many life domains. Participation is mandatory for activities required for Summit Pointe to become a “Trauma Informed System of Care.”
