About the position This position is Non-appropriated Fund NAF and will be assigned to Outdoor Recreation Outdoor Pool on Holloman AFB, NM. The incumbent will work days and evenings Monday through Sunday. This position is a Flexible position 0 Guaranteed Hours. Military Spouse Preference is not lost if selected for this position. This is a temporary position Not to Exceed 30-SEP-2026.

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to observe swimming area to ensure safety of patrons at the Outdoor Pool on Holloman AFB. The primary duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons.
  • Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area.
  • Rescues swimmers in trouble promptly administers first aid and calls for medical assistance if and when needed.
  • Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, ocean conditions of rough water or hazards and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail.
  • When working at pools may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards.
  • Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting and that necessary repairs are made.
  • May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, sunbathing areas, etc.

Requirements

Conditions of employment This position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation. This position may require the incumbent to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and/or fixed and rotating schedules. This position requires the incumbent to have the required lifeguard certifications. Must be willing to accept a temporary appointment.

Qualifying Experience

Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills as well as basic first aid training and CPR, both child and adult training. Experience which provides practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules, and procedures, and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

Individual must fully meet qualification and eligibility background requirements for this position. U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three 3 or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal Affiliation or a signed memorandum indicating the installations decision on the 3-year residency requirement. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Direct deposit is required. Satisfactorily complete an employment verification E-Verify check. A probationary period may be required. Pre-employment requirements must be satisfactorily met prior to Entrance on Duty EOD. Payment of Permanent Change of Station PCS costs is not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Governments interest.
