We are seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focused Recreation Attendant to join our team in beautiful Islamorada! This role is perfect for someone who loves the outdoors, enjoys interacting with guests, and has a strong understanding of watersports safety—specifically for kayaks, paddleboards, and the Hobie Wave catamaran.
As a Recreation Attendant, you will be responsible for assisting guests with watersports rentals, ensuring safety protocols are followed, maintaining beach, pool and equipment areas, and creating a welcoming and fun environment.
Responsibilities:
- Greet guests warmly and provide exceptional customer service.
- Assist guests with selecting and launching kayaks, paddleboards, and the Hobie Wave.
- Explain basic paddling and sailing techniques, ensuring guests feel comfortable and confident.
- Offer tips on local water conditions, marine life, and recommended paddling/sailing routes.
- Engage with guests throughout their experience, checking in on their needs and providing friendly conversation.
- Promote resort activities, excursions, and safety regulations in a professional and enthusiastic manner.
- Assist at times with guest luggage, food running and trash and laundry bags when necessary
- During slower times assist the landscaping team with property beautification
Watersports Safety & Supervision:
- Ensure all guests understand and follow safety procedures before launching.
- Conduct pre-rental safety briefings, including how to properly use equipment, navigate local waters, and what to do in emergencies.
- Monitor guests on the water, keeping an eye out for overdue returns, weather changes, or distress signals.
- Assist with capsizes and self-rescue techniques, particularly for the Hobie Wave.
- Enforce life jacket policies, ensuring all guests wear PFDs when required.
Equipment Maintenance & Watersports Operations:
- Set up, clean, and organize the pool areas, beach area, kayaks, paddleboards, and Hobie Wave each day.
- Inspect equipment for damage, wear, and proper function; report or repair as needed.
- Assist with organizing pool and beach furniture setup, maintaining a clean and inviting environment. Including trash and dirty towel removal
- Keep track of rental inventory and logs, ensuring all equipment is returned in good condition.
Qualifications:
- Experience in watersports, sailing, lifeguarding, or hospitality preferred.
- Strong swimming ability and comfort in open water preferred
- Knowledge of kayak, paddleboard, and Hobie Wave sailing techniques preferred
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to lift 50 lbs+ (kayaks, paddleboards, etc.).
