Job Description

Coordinates, supervises, develops, implements, and instructs participants in a variety of recreational and educational programs.

Essential Functions/ Job Competencies/ Physical Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Plans, coordinates, monitors, conducts, and/or supervises recreational and educational programming to include in part: sports camps, after-school programs, leagues, tutoring, classes, and special events to ensure their success.
  • Assists in recruiting volunteers to assist in all special events, as needed.
  • Provides various administrative duties, to include: assisting in producing brochures, flyers, calendars, and other methods to promote activities. Also, assist with daily activity reports and other reports necessary to monitor activity/growth in program.
  • Issues receipts for payments, maintains cash receipt reports, and ensure accuracy, as well as inventory and maintenance of equipment reports.
  • Supervises work assignments given to staff, community service, and volunteers to ensure they are carried out; monitors hours worked by staff.
  • Maintains the facility in a clean and safe condition.
  • Organizes and assists staff to do daily cleaning and maintenance of facility.
  • Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge and experience in developing, coordinating, and implementing recreational activities.
  • Knowledge of behavior management procedures.
  • Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment including copier, phone, computer and computer operating programs, such as Microsoft Office and their accompanying applications such as: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Ability to schedule, assign, and supervise staff in additional programming occurring at the center.
  • Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.
  • Ability to give directions to and gain compliance from assigned staff.

  • Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.

Physical Effort Requirements Position will have the following exposures

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • At least two (2) years experience in any recreational activity/field, which includes work experience in cash handling and supervising personnel.

Valid Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

The following Licenses and Certifications that must be obtained after employment. Continued employment is contingent on successfully obtaining required certification(s) and/or license(s) within the specified period of time indicated above from time of hire

  • Valid Infant, Child, & Adult CPR certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Valid First Aid certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.

Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.

Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
