Working Hours

Were looking for a Recreation Coordinator who is passionate about creating engaging experiences for young children and their families. If you enjoy developing enriching recreation programs, building community connections, and making a positive impact every day, wed love to have you join our team.

In this role, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing recreation programs at the Fit For Fun Center for children from birth through five years of age and their adult companions. You will assist in managing recreational facilities, coordinating activities and services, supervising volunteers, and supporting daily facility operations.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining a clean, safe, and secure environment; assisting with department special events; ordering program supplies; preparing attendance reports; handling daily cash transactions; and coordinating with community organizations and outside agencies to enhance programming.

Typical Tasks

  • Supervise facility operation by opening and closing facilities, managing facility operations on weekends, assisting with maintenance of grounds and facility, monitoring for security issues, reporting necessary repairs, coordinating facility use, developing administrative reports of facility use and handling of cash on a daily basis.
  • Enforce City and facility rules and regulations, clean and sanitize toys and equipment, engage with families and monitor creative play, manage confrontational situations with the public, and direct and control large groups.
  • Develop and implement recreation programs and activities by creating developmentally appropriate activities and play centers, submitting program proposals, purchasing supplies, setting up programs, breaking down programs, leading activities, coordinating volunteers, promoting and evaluating events, developing registration forms, developing activity budget and designing bulletin board display.
  • Perform administrative duties by utilizing RecTrac Software for program registration, developing rules and regulations, scheduling activities, contracting services, answering phones, greeting patrons, updating member files, distributing marketing materials, assisting with special events, assisting with budget maintenance, ordering supplies, maintaining communication with other agencies, maintaining and organizing member files,

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Associates degree in in Recreation Management, Education, Early Childhood Education, or closely related field and one (1) year of age-appropriate programming or teaching experience.

OR

High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of age-appropriate programming or teaching experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid drivers license

  • Ability to obtain CPR/AED certification upon hire

  • Ability to work weekends.

Note: Criminal history and driving history checks are required. Selected candidate will also be required to complete a post-offer drug screen.

Health Benefits are offered to employees working at least 30 hours per week.

Health Insurance - The City offers two options for health coverage: a standard PPO plan and a High Deductible Health Plan with an associated Health Savings Account. Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following hire for employees and their eligible dependents. Both you and the City contribute to the overall cost of coverage.

Dental Insurance - Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following hire. Employees, their spouse and dependent children are eligible for coverage.

Life Insurance - The city pays to provide coverage valued at one times your annual salary. Supplemental insurance is available for employees to purchase. Optional coverage for dependents is also available for purchase.

Retirement:

  • NC Local Government Retirement System - All benefits eligible employees make a mandatory 6% contribution every pay period.
  • Deferred Compensation - The city contributes an amount equal to 4.5% of the annual salary to a 401(k) plan regardless of employee contribution. Employees may choose to contribute additional money to the 401(k) or 457 deferred compensation plans, without a match from the City, within the IRS guidelines.

Paid Leave (offered to employees working at least 1,000 hours annually*):

  • Sick Leave - 12 days accrued each year
  • Annual Leave - Accrual based on years of service and classification. Employees can earn from 10 to 24 days each year.
  • Holidays - 13 paid holidays annually
  • Paid Parental Leave - Six weeks of paid leave for the birth, adoption or placement of a child (must run concurrently with FMLA).
  • Part-Time Employees will earn paid leave benefits on a pro-rated basis.
