WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position works primarily M-F with occasional weeknight and weekend shifts.

Typical Responsibilities

The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for assisting with program planning of programs for youth sports, including leading the Start Smart Sports program and Pee Wee Basketball, and assisting with scheduling and monitoring of youth sports games and officials. This position will also help develop and implement new programming for youth, with a special focus on youth under the age of 12, assist with our summer camp program, and assist with organizing and conducting special events, clinics, tournaments, and family forums. This position acts as the primary purchaser of day-to-day materials and commodities for the Youth Services Division, including office and activity supplies and groceries. This position will provide administrative support for both the Youth Services Division and Youth Sports division by preparing transmittals, helping with registrations, updating social media accounts and web pages, and other administrative related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from high school, or the equivalent.

Experience:

Two years of providing administrative support for recreational activities/programs.

Licensure/Certification:

CPR/First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment

Valid Driver's License at time of appointment and for continued employment.

For Adult/Youth Recreation program:

Substitutions:

Experience coaching youth or adult sports activities may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of one (1) sports season of credit for two (2) months experience, OR

Experience officiating youth or adult sports activities may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of ten (10) games per season for credit of two (2) months experience; OR;

College study in recreation or physical education may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of 2.5 semester hours (3.75 quarter hours) of credit for one month of experience for up to one (1) year of the required experience.

Other:

Under Alaska Statute 12.62.160 (9) Appointments to this position are offered conditionally, pending the results of a criminal records report (Non-FBI). Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors.
