Description

The City and County of Broomfield is a great place to work, live, and thrive. Broomfields Parks, Recreation, & Senior Services Department is now recruiting for one full-time non-exempt Recreation Coordinator - Youth & Teen. The schedule is typically 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Salary Range: $30.33-$41.03/hour

As Recreation Coordinator, you will perform professional recreation work in a variety of activities in a recreation facility or other recreation program areas and provide information and assistance to City and County staff and the public.

Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties

General Duties:

  • Develops, coordinates, schedules, implements, supervises and evaluates a variety of recreational programs, activities special events and facilities. Includes modifying programs based on skills and abilities as well as evaluating the assigned recreation programs and recommending areas for improvement.

  • Prepares program materials, equipment, first aid kits and other necessary items. May be asked to instruct designated recreation classes according to program curriculum and philosophy.

  • Responsible for the safety of self, staff, participants and volunteers as well as the proper use and care of materials, equipment, and facilities used. Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.

  • Assists with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating and supervising staff.

  • Evaluates service costs and makes related recommendations. Identifies and recommends improvements in divisional and departmental operations to ensure assigned functions are efficient and cost effective.

  • Supervises opening and closing of recreation facilities as scheduled. Supervises building and participants by enforcing program and building rules, regulations, and procedures.

Youth/Teen Coordinator Additional duties:

  • Assists in planning, directing, and coordinating activities for summer camp, Winter Break, Fall Break and Spring Break.

  • Coordinates Youth and Teen programs, establishes communications with local schools, youth groups and other organizations.

  • Mentors and trains staff in all youth programming.

  • Responsible for medication and allergy needs

  • Works closely with the Preschool Youth Coordinator and Youth Lead Provider

  • Follows all licensing rules and regulations for the State of colorado

  • May be required to drive a 15 passenger van.

Minimum Qualifications

Education - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in parks, recreation, sports management, or a closely related field. Preference is given for individuals with an emphasis in the specific program area.

Experience - Two years recreation programming experience preferably in the preferably in youth and teen recreation programs.

Youth/Teen Recreation Coordinator Certifications

  • School Age Director Certified - required

  • Large Center Certified - required

Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry. If this position is required to drive a CCOB vehicle a DMV check will be required.

  • Must be 18 years or older.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment.

  • Must possess and maintain valid AED, First Aid and CPR Certifications within 90 days of hire.

Youth/Teen Coordinator - Must obtain and maintain Medication Administration certification within 90 days of hire. Fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI.

Working Conditions

  • Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday including some evening, weekend and holiday hours.

  • Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.)

  • Frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

  • The noise level in the environment is quiet to moderate depending on the program area
