Provides program planning and execution of contract labor to meet all recreation service requirements. Responsible for outdoor recreation and fitness programs to support all personnel assigned to AAAF. Oversees the management and operation of the American Forces Network (AFN), a recreation boat program, swimming pool operations, a base gym, CrossFit gym, outdoor sports courts, movie theater services, and equipment check out, and other recreational functions. The manager will ensure all recreation programs and services are adequately staffed and supported by other functional areas, as required. Provides a monthly status report of each recreation activity identifying any improvement suggestions identified. Serves as the primary fitness manager and trainer with the responsibility to establish and manage personal and group fitness classes and recreational program schedules. Maintains and provides recommendations on how to improve recreation facilities, such as athletic fields, swimming pool, tennis courts, racquetball courts, and boat maintenance. Ensures the recreation facilities and equipment are maintained to a high professional standard. Shall be able to work periods of long hours, flexible schedules, weekends, and holidays. Acts as the Recreation Manager in their absence.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation, execution, and personnel supervision of all Outdoor and Fitness Recreation services and facilities per the PWS and guidance from site manager. Oversees the overall organization and management of the Outdoor and Fitness Recreation Programs.
  • Plans, manages, and executes fitness classes, sports events, and outdoor activities per the PWS. Ensures facilities and equipment are maintained to a high standard for maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality.
  • Works with recreation employees and reviews PWS and local command requirements, determine their priorities, and establish performance standards.
  • Identifies programs and services for the community in terms of recreational activities, aquatics, and sports and fitness. Organizes, advertises, and facilitates outdoor recreational activities for base personnel such as hiking, fishing, camping, and sporting events. Includes posting flyers and posters on community bulletin boards and other designated areas as approved by Site Management.
  • Provides oversight of government furnished property used to in support of the outdoor and fitness, sports, and aquatics facilities.
  • Recommends improvement or procurement of recreation equipment ranging from weight sets / machines, recreational games, audio visual equipment, etc.
  • Establishes a weekly, monthly, and quarterly fitness and outdoors recreation, and sports calendars, and action plans.

Assist in event development and marketing. Shall provide set up and breakdown of equipment such as tables, chairs, music system, ice chests, stages, etc.

  • Manages a team made up of a recreation specialist and recreational aides to ensure programs and activities align with the PWS requirements.
  • Completes records and reports. Submits required CDRLs to the Assistant Site Manager for review.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Trains and develops the key skills and abilities to assigned personnel.
  • Submits all recreation purchase requests to Logistics Manager, Assistant Site Manager, and the Site Manager for review and approval.
  • Maintains a log of all vehicle usage to be available upon request to the COR.
  • Operates a base shuttle using bus and/or vans for select events as approved by the Site Manager.
  • Performs a quarterly inventory of all recreation equipment, purchases new or replacement recreation equipment per the Equipment Replacement Plan, and ensures life expectancies for recreation equipment items are documented in the five (5) year plan.
  • Complies with the Government's water hazard safety policy on water entry and/or water recreation for their employees to mitigate the risk of accident or incident due to sharks, ocean currents, and other hazardous conditions present at AAAF.

Qualifications

  • Education/Certifications:

  • BA or BS degree preferred.

  • Experience:

  • The Deputy Recreation Manager shall have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in managing outdoor or fitness programs.

  • Skills

  • Extensive interaction with a large customer base with the ability to handle complaints, feedback, and work independently.

  • Must be skilled in performing personal fitness and group fitness classes, and manage an outdoor recreation program per the PWS

  • Must be able to supervise and manage the activities of a multi-national and culturally diverse work force

  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

  • Must possess excellent supervisory and management skills.

  • Proficient in intermediate level MS Office software applications such as Word, Excel, Access and Power Point.

  • Need to be able to delegate work to the subordinates according to the changing priorities of the USG and Customers.

  • Good organization and training skills are essential.

  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and should be able to maintain good relations with the USG and Customers by communicating effectively and building a rapport with them.

  • Must be skilled in performing personal fitness and group fitness classes, and manage an outdoor recreation program per the PWS

  • Handle multiple tasks at any time.
