The City of El Segundo is currently seeking (6) part-time position, non-benefited, enthusiastic, and dependable Recreation Leader to support a variety of recreation programs and activities. We are especially interested in candidates with experience or an interest in youth sports, including basketball. Come help us create fun, engaging, and positive experiences for our community.

To assist in organizing and conducting a variety of recreational, cultural and community programs and activities for participants in support of one or more of the following areas adult and youth sports, after school and camp programs and aquatics, special events, contract classes, senior services, and recreational facilities maintenance and operations. This is a part-time, at-will position exempt from the classified service.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Knowledge of:
Basic objectives, methods, and techniques of recreational activities for youth and adults;
Effective instructional techniques; and
Policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using the recreational facilities and equipment
Skill in:
Assisting in the development, coordinating, and directing varied activities involved in a community recreation program;
Monitoring games, crafts, and team activities;
Interpreting recreation programs and policies for the public in support of departmental policies;
Inspecting the maintenance of facilities and equipment used in recreation programs to ensure their adequacy and safety;
Communicating effectively with the public and co-workers;
Appearing for work on time;
Regularly and predictably attending work;
Following directions from a supervisor;
Understanding posted work rules and procedures;
Accepting constructive criticism; and
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with department staff, participants, instructors, other City employees and the public.
This position may be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Experience: Six (6) months of experience in customer service, community service, childcare, babysitting, working with seniors, coaching or playing a sport, and/or volunteer work in a related field.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of tenth (10th) grade.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Ability to provide a Work Permit as required.
Within six months of hire, obtain First Aid, CPR and AED Certification through American Red Cross.
Some positions in this class may require possession of a valid California driver's license in order to carry out essential job functions.
Working Conditions:
Regularly exposed to weather conditions.
Regularly required to lift and/or carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
Disaster Service Worker:
In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, City of El Segundo employees in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond accordingly.

Non-represented part-time, hourly positions do not qualify for City benefits, except as required by law. Employees are enrolled in Social Security upon hire.
Hourly employees may not exceed 999 hours in a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30) unless previously authorized. There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice.
