Description: This position is budgeted to start at $17.34 per hour. Escondido Community Services Department is looking for dynamic individuals who are passionate about working with youth in the City's Youth Camp Programs, Mobile Recreation Programs, and Special Events. If you enjoy engaging youth in learning, active play, and mentoring opportunities, this is the perfect job for you!

Recreation Leaders are responsible for the supervision of the children and implementation of the activities while maintaining a safe and fun environment. Interest and knowledge in the following areas is highly desirable: sports, games, arts & crafts, STEAM projects and other youth activities.

Available openings include multiple positions during the program hours of 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m, Monday - Friday, nights, and weekends depending on the programmatic and operational need of the department.

Key Responsibilities: • Promote a safe and positive environment for all participants • Implement the day-to-day operations of the Youth Camp Program which includes, but is not limited to recreational play, enrichment activities, and field trips. • Supervise program participants and maintains a participant to staff ratio of 20:1 • Monitor participant behavior and provide guidance and interventions as necessary • Ensure the designated program space/facility is maintained in a clean and orderly manner. Report any safety issues. • Attend all designated meetings and trainings • Assist at various community outreach and citywide special events as needed • All other duties as assigned

Ideal Candidate: • Enjoy working with youth, be energetic, self-motivated, and team-orientated • Be able to effectively plan, lead, and execute daily activities • Learn and apply prevention methods, enforce safety rules, and maintain constant attention to children and assigned areas • Have excellent oral and written skills to communicate with participants, parents, staff, and community • Provide high-quality customer service • Have the ability to work with a diverse group of children

Minimum Requirements: • 16 years of age at the time of employment • Reliable transportation to and from the assigned program site • First Aid and CPR Certification within 30 days of employment • Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills are highly desirable.

When testing is completed, candidates will be ranked on an eligibility list in the order of their test score. Selection for appointments is made from names certified on the eligibility list.

All appointments are subject to the successful completion of background investigation including LIVESCAN fingerprinting, and will be required to submit verification of the legal right to work in the United States. Qualification by a medical examination will be required at the time of appointment. After appointment, classified employees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period to be eligible for regular status.

In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all new employees must produce proof of eligibility to work in the United States within the first three days of their employment. The City of Escondido participates in E-Verify.

Loyalty Oath: The Loyalty Oath will be administered to all new employees on their first day of hire. New employees hired into positions that require a drivers license must provide proof of a valid California Drivers License of the appropriate class level on their first day of employment.
