Job Description

Parks, Recreation and Tourism is seeking an individual who enjoys participating in a variety of recreational activities and events and has a passion for working with the 55-and-better community. This position primarily supports senior adult programs, facility operations, rentals, and events, including a wide range of diverse programs and activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to diverse citizen and participant groups in alignment with the City's Customer Service Initiative.
  • Assist with facilitating Senior Day Programs, including teaching, planning, and supervising crafts, games, and other activities.
  • Supervise facilities and participants; monitor daily attendance; enforce rules and regulations in accordance with City policies and procedures.
  • Support daily center operations such as opening and closing the facility, performing general custodial tasks, setting up and taking down equipment, tables, and chairs, and conducting facility inspections.
  • Monitor facilities during normal hours of operation, secure the building, ensure security procedures are followed, and enforce City policies and regulations.
  • Monitor program and participant safety; report safety concerns; respond to accidents and injuries and perform basic first aid as needed.
  • Participate in field trips and center activities, including table games, cards, checkers, and other active or passive games.
  • Utilize general knowledge of senior-focused recreational activities, including athletics, arts and crafts, music and dance, board games, and special events.
  • Interact with citizens, instructors, and contractors; mediate issues and address customer service requests.
  • Coordinate facility rentals, conduct facility tours, and collaborate with other City departments that use the facility.
  • Complete rental forms, collect rental fees, prepare reports, and process program registrations.
  • Prepare monetary deposits and process transactions for rentals, program registrations, and fees using the ActiveNet system.
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and inventory for planned programs and activities; organize site equipment; explain game rules and regulations; demonstrate equipment use; make safe decisions; and follow instructions.
  • Submit written reports-such as incident/accident reports and equipment or inventory needs-to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Occasionally work special events and rentals, which may require evening, weekend, or holiday hours. Events and rentals may occur at other City facilities.

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Requires a high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in recreation, physical education, or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of one month of full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Requires CPR and First Aid certification within the first year of employment. Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to use a telephone; read and interpret rules and regulations.

Will be required to work at City special events and activities as program support staff.

Excellent customer service skills and abilities.
