    Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach, "Where PLAY is Serious BUSINESS!" Have fun while teaching club members how to play with purpose, and build positive relationships with caring adults in a safe and creative environment.

    Mission: To inspire and empower all young people, especially those who need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible adults.

    Position Description:

    Title: Youth Program Activity Leader (Sports & Recreation, Education, The Arts) Bilingual in Spanish needed for some program site roles.

    Hours Per Week:

    School year Program Hours Mon-Fri 2:00-6:15pm, Wednesday 1-6:15pm (Laguna Beach) Potential for more hours at lunch time programs on school campuses.

    Salary: $16.90-18.00 per hour depending on education and experience

    Staff Gear: T-shirts provided for each staff to wear daily.

    Locations: After-school location in Laguna Beach

    Primary Function:

    Under the supervision of the Area Director, the Youth Program Activity Leader will assist the Program Directors/Site Coordinators to implement and supervise activities for youth ages 5-11. Guiding members to participate in games, activities and organized sports to learn basic games/sports fundamentals, good sportsmanship and development of healthy lifestyles in a safe, fun and creative environment. Ensure warm ups, drills and cool down exercises are included with every body movement sessions, which includes staff and volunteers. Recognize and celebrate youth development success daily and monthly by participating with Boys & Girls Club America specialized competitions and recognition programs. Create an opportunity for members to showcase their athletic and mental talents with seasonal sports/games leagues, clinics, showcases, or tournaments (limiting these activities currently) when invited or presented. Flexibility to assist in other program areas may be required. I.E.,

    Education Role: Assist with homework assistance (science, math, etc.), distance learning, outdoor STEM activities, creative writing, technology and story telling programs.

    The Arts: Outdoor recycling arts program activities, drawing, sketching, and unconventional materials building.

    Community service: Assist youth to volunteer in Laguna Beach and surrounding communities with various projects, beach cleanups and partnering with other community agencies.

    Key Roles:

    Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes.

    Promote and stimulate program participation.

    Provide guidance and role modeling to members.

    Demonstrates leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of club members.

    Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the facility at all times.

    Deliver a weekly calendar of activities as designed by the Branch/Program Director, offer ideas to create a variety of activities, thematic to the season, and information is delivered to the director in a timely manner.

    Ensure to follow the activity calendar as posted for club members to review and participate.

    Ensure safety of members and provide a productive work environment by participating in weekly/monthly/quarterly staff program and safety meetings.

    Greet members and parents enthusiastically, using his or her first name as soon as he or she enters the Club or program area. SMILE with your EYES!

    During this period of uncertainty and change, you will make our kids and teens feel safe, loved and protected. You will listen to how they feel, validate their feelings including worries, fears, disappointments and frustrations, and acknowledge how hard it must be for them not to have normal interactions with peers.

    Redirect negative behavior with positive communication.

    Report injuries and completes required forms.

    Daily keep program area clean, (follow COVID-19 sanitation guidelines), neat and organized.

    Skills/Knowledge Required:

    High School Diploma or GED or Attending College or re-entering the job market.

    Experience working with children.

    Knowledge of child development.

    Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.

    Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.

    Good communication skills, oral and written.

    Knowledge of group dynamics and age-appropriate activities for school children.

    Good computer literacy with multiple computer applications; I.E., Microsoft Work, Excel, TEAMS, ZOOM, etc.

    Valid CA Drivers License.
