    Job Description

    Are you looking for a flexible part-time opportunity where you can make a positive impact in your community? The City that Cares is currently seeking dependable and enthusiastic Recreation Leaders to support our youth programs during the fall and winter seasons.

    As a Recreation Leader, you will play a key role in providing safe, engaging, and well-organized activities for children ages 6 to 15 in a variety of settings, including community centers, city parks, day camps, and special events.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Supervise and engage with children (ages 6-15) in recreational programs such as Stay and Play, outdoor summer camps, and special events
    • Plan, lead, and participate in games, crafts, field trips, and age-appropriate activities
    • Monitor behavior, manage group dynamics, and respond calmly to conflicts or issues
    • Provide excellent customer service to participants, families, volunteers, and the public
    • Assist with facility and equipment setup, breakdown, and basic custodial tasks
    • Ensure safety by inspecting play areas, enforcing rules, and administering basic first aid if needed
    • Process registrations, handle participant payments, and help maintain program inventory

    Required Qualifications

    VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

    Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

    In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of one month of full-time equivalent experience.

    SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

    Requires CPR and First Aid certification within the first year of employment. Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Must have ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to use a telephone; read and interpret rules and regulations.
    • Requires a degree of mobility that would allow for interaction with children in active and passive games. Must have the ability to lift and set up tables and chairs and organize site equipment.
    • General knowledge of recreational activities including athletics, arts and crafts, music and dance, board games, and special events.
    • May be required to work at City special events and activities as program support staff.
    • Possess positive customer service skills and abilities.
    • Previous work experience as a camp counselor, childcare provider, independent contractor or teacher
