Recreation Leader - Spring & Summer Youth Programs

We're looking for dependable, energetic Recreation Leaders who love working with kids and want to make a positive impact in our community this summer!

Recreation Leaders support the City's youth programs at community centers, parks, special events, and day camps - including Stay & Play, Summer Blast, outdoor camps, and more. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same.

What You'll Do:

  • Supervise and engage children ages 6-15 in fun, structured activities and games
  • Plan and participate in age-appropriate crafts, sports, and recreational activities
  • Actively assist during field trips, special events, and daily camp programming
  • Provide excellent customer service to participants, parents, coaches, volunteers, and community members
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment by enforcing rules and resolving conflicts calmly
  • Respond to minor accidents and complete required reports
  • Set up and break down equipment for programs and events
  • Assist with facility upkeep, including light custodial tasks
  • Process program registrations, collect payments, and manage equipment inventory
  • Conduct safety checks of facilities and play areas

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of one month of full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Requires CPR and First Aid certification within the first year of employment. Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance withCity Driving Standards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must have ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to use a telephone; read and interpret rules and regulations.
  • Requires a degree of mobility that would allow for interaction with children in active and passive games. Must have the ability to lift and set up tables and chairs and organize site equipment.
  • General knowledge of recreational activities including athletics, arts and crafts, music and dance, board games, and special events.
  • May be required to work at City special events and activities as program support staff.
  • Possess positive customer service skills and abilities.
  • Previous work experience as a camp counselor, childcare provider, independent contractor or teacher

Please note that this position is Seasonal-Substitute and is not to exceed 500 hours per year.
