Position Summary
The purpose of the Recreation Program Coordinator-General Recreation is to support out-of-school programs, services, and activities for school age children, with primary responsibility for the Before and After School Care program. Provides assistance in administrative duties and facility management. Provides transportation of participants and staff with District vehicles. This position requires on-site presence and is not a remote role. This position is required to adhere to all Waukegan Park District (District) policies.
Essential Functions
Assists in developing and implementing out-of-school recreation programs, services, and activities.
Provides leadership and observes staff during out-of-school recreation programs, services, and activities to ensure objectives are achieved when assigned.
Opens and prepares the facility at designated opening times prior to participants arriving to ensure access to programs, activities, and services.
Assists with facility management closing the facility.
Prepares and maintains records and reports related to programs and services.
Prepares and submits District financial assistance and Illinois State funding records and reports in accordance with reporting requirements.
Implements food assistance program procedures for safe handling and distribution of food.
Records required information relating to meals distributed through vendor's application in accordance with reporting requirements.
Uses recreational management suite for, but not limited to, payments, cash handling, reconciliation, program registration, facility registration, and program rosters.
Provides information to the public regarding District programs, services, activities, schedules, rentals, fees, and registration requirements.
Serves as primary point of contact for incoming communications, provides assistance when appropriate, or directs to appropriate staff.
Assists public with program registrations, applications, and payments.
Communicates with participants' parents/guardians and responds to their inquiries and needs with promptness and professionalism.
Oversees cash drawer, opens and closes batches and balances receipts, secures monies and receipts.
Oversees, reconciles, and deposits Belvidere Recreation Center's daily deposits/batches.
Responds to public and District staff inquiries and needs with promptness and professionalism.
Supervises youth in group activities and programs.
Implements developmentally appropriate activities to meet the needs and interests of the participants.
Responds to disruptive behaviors using verbal de-escalation strategies.
Assists in evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of programs and services; makes recommendations on the addition or deletion of programs and services.
Supports implementing the goals and objectives specific to the area of General Recreation.
Assists with the development and implementation of a marketing strategy including, but not limited to, pricing and promotional expenses.
Assists with training and observing staff as assigned.
Uses discretion and maintains confidentiality with sensitive information.
Collaborates with independent contractors and vendors for programs and services.
Maintains, purchases, distributes, and organizes inventory of supplies and materials necessary to support required programs and services.
Drives District vehicles.
Provides transportation and supervision of participants while operating District vehicles.
Transitions between tasks and interruptions, responds to immediate needs, and returns to ongoing tasks.
Trains and shares safety and other work-related practices with District employees.
Works evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
Works special events and programs as needed.
Assists staff in the performance of their duties.
Conducts duties adhering to all safety requirements.
Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor to support the department or the District.
