Position

The Arts Center is looking for a creative, organized, and energetic Recreation Program Specialist to help bring our educational programs and volunteer community to life! In this role, you will be the heartbeat of our arts programming, helping to manage classes, inspire volunteers, and provide top-notch experiences for artists of all ages.

As our Recreation Program Specialist, your day-to-day will be dynamic and rewarding. Some of your tasks include:

  • Assisting in implementing and managing a diverse lineup of Arts Center programs for adults, youth, families, and special events.
  • Recruiting, coordinating, and overseeing an enthusiastic team of volunteers who help keep our programs running smoothly.
  • Researching current art trends, evaluate existing programs, and recommend adjustments to boost community participation.
  • Manage class rosters, plan schedules, and prep materials for all of our educational programs.
  • Provide excellent, friendly customer service (in-person and over the phone), handle program registrations, manage ticket sales, and track program supplies.
  • Maintain precise records for attendance, class participation, and in-kind donations, and prepare twice-weekly financial deposits.

What You'll Bring:

  • An Artistic Eye: Practical experience with visual or fine arts programming. (Teaching experience is a huge plus!)
  • Great Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with a knack for excellent customer service.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, Publisher, Adobe Creative Suite, and registration software.

This is a part-time position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with occasional weekend shifts.

Major Areas of Accountability

  • Assist with a variety of Arts Center programs including but not limited to adults, youth, families, and special events.

  • Recruit, coordinate and oversee volunteers for the Arts Center volunteer program.

  • Recommend needs for program adjustments to increase or maintain levels of participation through planning, evaluation and researching art trends.

  • Assist with planning and staffing for Arts Center classes and special events.

  • Assist with marketing of programs.

  • Manage class lists and materials for all Arts Center educational programs.

  • Maintain records including but not limited to attendance, class participation, in-kind donations, monthly and annual reports.

  • Provide excellent customer service over the phone and in person, process program registrations and ticket sales.

  • Maintains program supply inventories, keeping the appropriate supplies on hand for all programs.

  • Responsible for preparing twice weekly deposits by balancing cash receipts and delivering paperwork and deposits.

  • Performs other routine duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Proficient knowledge in use of computers, Microsoft Office 2016, Publisher, Adobe Creative Suites, Registration Software.
  • Experience with visual/fine arts programming.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience in RecTrac and Canva preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in parks and recreation administration, fine arts or related field. A minimum of four years of practical experience shall be considered an equivalent to a four-year degree.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of working experience in the arts.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.

  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force;
  • Work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking and reaching with hands and arms;

The City of Lakeville provides the following benefits:

PTO: Employees earn pro-rated paid time off based on years of service.

HOLIDAYS: Employees are eligible for pro-rated holiday pay. There are twelve holidays each calendar year.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Employees are able to designate and set aside a portion of their income on a tax-deferred basis.

PERA: Employees automatically become members of the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) when they begin public service. Contribution percentages (city and employee) are established by PERA.
