Recreation Programmer

Pay: $35.83 - $46.46 per hour, DOQ

Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Benefit Eligible

This position works primarily at the Eagan Municipal Campus but includes a variety of nights and weekends to provide leadership and support to Eagan Parks & Recreation programs and events.

Recruitment Timeline:

  • Position posting runs from October 9 - October 25

Essential Position Functions

  • Develop, implement, lead, and coordinate a variety of community events and recreation opportunities for the Eagan community.
  • Develop and coordinate camp schedules in multiple parks locations.
  • Develop and implement new programs, events and outreach opportunities to meet community needs.
  • Plan and implement community-wide events.
  • Create social media content for Recreation Division programs and events.
  • Ensure that all programs and events are inclusive, accessible and equitable.
  • Monitor expenses and revenues to accurately report division budget.
  • Gather requested data and statistics, track equipment and supplies, perform inventory control and purchasing duties as needed or directed.
  • Evaluate the overall need, cost, quality and effectiveness of activities and events and recommend improvements and changes.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with community members, staff, vendors and independent contractors.
  • Coordinate contract agreements for services required.
  • Assist in the selection, training, scheduling, and supervision of seasonal staff, instructors, volunteers and partnering organizations.
  • Coordinate proper written documents and contracts for council approval as needed.
  • Keep Supervisor and other management staff informed of problems, concerns, new developments, and work accomplishments.
  • Assist Supervisor in maintaining relationships with internal and external groups.
  • Troubleshoot, make decisions, and respond to inquiries and concerns relating to participants, activities, staff and public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Associate's degree in any field of study.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Two (2) years of direct experience in community events or a recreation setting.
  • One (1) year of experience providing work direction to part-time staff and/or volunteers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs.

Things that may help you be successful in this role

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, or a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in an office setting.
  • One (1) or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience planning camps and events in a community setting.
  • Experience with Rec Trac registration software.

Supervision of Others:

  • This position provides work direction to seasonal and part-time recurring staff, contractors, vendors, volunteers, and participants.
