Job Description

Performs intermediate professional work in planning and implementing the Countys recreational programs. Does related work as required. Duties are performed under the general direction of the Recreation Program Supervisor. Supervision is exercised over assigned personnel.

The hiring salary for this position is $28.93/hour to $39.78/hour based on experience.

The full salary range for this position is $28.93/hour to $50.63/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.

Examples of Duties

• Plans and organizes recreational programs and services for citizens of all ages;
• Supervises and instructs recreational programs;
• Trains part-time, seasonal, and volunteer staff;
• Prepares and maintains records and files;
• Plans, organizes, and evaluates recreational programs for all segments, groups, and ages of the community;
• Supervises fee class instructors, seasonal personnel, and volunteers;
• Gathers information and makes recommendations for the purchase of equipment, materials, and supplies;
• Interviews and recommends for hire part-time and/or seasonal personnel;
• Prepares reports on recreational programs;
• Provides information to the public and responds to citizen and agency request for information regarding recreational programs;
• Evaluates recreational programs, instructors, volunteers, and coaches; and
• Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of the philosophies, principles and practices of public recreation;
• Thorough knowledge of the facilities and equipment needed in programs;
• Thorough knowledge of current safety principles and practices as they apply to parks and recreation programs and facility usage;
• Thorough knowledge of human behavior of individuals in groups participating in recreation activities;
• Ability to develop and implement recreational programs;
• Thorough knowledge of computer and/or computer applications;
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
• Ability to prepare and maintain detailed records and reports;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, program participants, and the general public.

Have you earned a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation or another closely related field? Please list your field of study, Institution which granted the degree, date completed, major(s), minor(s).

Do you have a valid Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification? Please indicate expiration date.

Do you have one (1) to three (3) years of experience of aquatics facility operations? Describe your knowledge and experience with aquatics facility operations.

Do you have one (1) to three (3) years of experience designing and implementing aquatic swim lessons and special aquatic events? Describe your experience designing and implementing aquatic swim lessons and aquatic special events in a recreational setting.

Do you have one (1) to three (3) years of experience supervising part-time and seasonal personnel? Describe your experience of hiring, training, and evaluating part-time and seasonal personnel. Please include the number of staff you directly supervised.
