Recreation Programmer Salary $57,882.96 - $70,356.96 Annually Location Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo, WA Job Type Full-time Job Number 2026-00182 Department Recreation & Cultural Arts Opening Date 05/14/2026 Closing Date Continuous FLSA Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit OCT + Description + Benefits + Questions Description Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, assist with planning, organizing, and conducting recreational activities, prepare recreational facilities for participant use, and monitor recreational activities to ensure that activities are safe and appropriate. Assist Recreation staff in planning and coordinating events. Provide administrative support to assigned programs at the Rosehill Community Center. Monitor classes, sites, and facilities. To perform recreation work in a lead capacity or be in charge of a facility or program area. Recreation Programmer positions provide functional supervision of part-time recreation employees (such as Recreation Leaders, Recreation Instructors, and Parks and Recreation Aides) and volunteers. Essential Duties + Essential Duties and Responsibilities + Assist with the coordination of the instruction of recreation programs to include monitoring contract instructors, negotiating fees, monitoring class registrations, collecting hold harmless forms, collecting payments and processing instructor payments. + Input class and event information into recreation registration software. + Determine materials, equipment, facilities, supervision, and instruction needs for each activity or program and coordinate with other staff members. + Provide support activities for a variety of community special events including but not limited to; supporting event management by recruiting and coordinating event sponsors and volunteers, handling booth activities, coordinating entertainment, assisting in set-up and break-down, and developing flyers and press releases. + Provide administrative support including but not limited to; providing information and referral, responding to customer service requests, taking class registrations and facility reservation requests, and maintaining activity and program records. + Monitor site facilities, ensure safety of facility operation and use, provide information and assistance to facility users. + With review and approval by the Recreation Coordinator, develops and distributes promotional materials and program information including news releases, flyers, posters, brochures, newspapers, ads, activity schedules, notices, meeting agendas and electronic media. + Plans, organizes and directs a wide variety of activities at a recreation facility or other park site + Plans and directs recreation activities in a specialty program area. + Serves as a lead over part time and volunteer staff and assigns, reviews and approves work. + Resolves the more complex and technical problems and customer inquiries in the work unit. + Leads and teaches a variety of on-site recreational activities + Performs on-site participant registration for recreation activities and maintains Web-based registration procedures + Compiles various activity report or other special projects + Responds to emergencies or significant site problems as they arise and ensure management is informed of critical issues or other emergencies + Tracks location and possession of keys and equipment + Maintain financial and activity records and accepts cash and credit card payment for a variety of service. programs + Maintains regular and reliable attendance + Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity and commitment to innovation, efficiency and fiscally responsible activity. + Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge and Ability Section Knowledge of: · Principles and methods used in organizing, conducting, and supervising a program of recreational activities. · Fiscal controls needed to account for money in recreation fund accounts. · Theory and philosophy of recreation and/or group work and its application to individual and group behavior. · Safety practices and procedures. · Techniques of planning, organizing, and promoting program activities. · First-aid methods and necessary safety precautions used in recreation work. · The rules and regulations and tournament bracketing governing various competitive athletic games such as softball, baseball, basketball, and table games. · A variety of active and passive game activities suitable for children, adolescents, adults, senior citizens, and/or people with disabilities. · The tools and techniques of teaching music, drama, crafts, sports, or other specialties involved. Ability to: · Train, direct, and evaluate employees and volunteers involved in recreation work. · Maintain financial and activity records and produce written documentation in the English language. · Provide guidance and direction to employees for site-related safety and liability concerns. · Stand for long periods of time. · Be able to work outdoors in varied temperatures and conditions. · Develop skills to solve participant disciplinary problems. · Communicate orally in the English language by telephone or in a one-to-one or group setting. · Work cooperatively and professionally with other City employees, volunteers, and the general public including groups of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds. · Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others. · Work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills): Required: + High School diploma or G.E.D. and, an Associate's degree in recreation. leisure studies or area of recreational specialization and one year of recreation experience + Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the essential duties of the job.
