Employee opens and closes the work location, enforces site and program rules, develops, implements, and evaluates programs. Employee oversees program equipment, processes attendance, creates and maintains records, trains fellow staff. Employee assists in overall program maintenance and identification of safety hazards; administers first aid as needed. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Recreation Specialist is the journey level classification in the Community Services Department. Under general supervision, an incumbent is responsible for acting as lead support staff in the promotion, organization, and leadership of a variety of recreation activities, specifically the EXCEL After School Program. Work location will be at a Lake Elsinore Unified School District Elementary School. SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED: Receives general supervision from Community Services Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor. Incumbents may supervise Recreation Aides and Leaders. AVAILABILITY / HOURS: This is a non-exempt, part time, temporary position that will work no more than 8 months out of the year and no more than 800 hours over that span of time. Must be available Monday through Friday on Lake Elsinore Union School District school days between 12:30 PM - 5:00 PM. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following)
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Position requires, active participation in sports and group games, prolonged sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires both near and far vision in reading written reports and work related documents. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper, supplies, equipment, and documents weighing up to 25 pounds is also required.
