Position Summary
Target Hiring Range: $62,764.78 - 69,738.64
The purpose of this position is to supervise, coordinate, and perform a variety of recreation duties at the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center, our community Recreation Center. This includes various professional, technical, and administrative tasks related to the planning, development, and implementation of youth programs, youth fitness services, special events, youth camp programs and a multitude of recreational activities. This is accomplished through the coordination and/or facilitation of youth programs, youth fitness services, recreation, special events and youth camp programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities listed below are an overview of the key duties of this position and is not a definitive listing of duties enacted by an single incumbent. Other duties may be assigned.
- Develops and executes quality programs and events relative to youth programs, youth camps, youth fitness, special events, recreation, community outreach, and wellness. This includes but is not limited to: program development, scheduling, promotions, organizing registration, membership services and retention, and ensuring quality program delivery.
- Maintains a clean and safe recreation center facility. This includes maintaining supplies and materials in restrooms and locker rooms; ensuring First- Aid supplies and equipment are available; cleaning equipment, internal/external areas (including the playground), and handling trash maintenance; and, maintaining condition of fitness equipment in fitness area, gyms, etc.
- Supervises part-time, seasonal staff, and contract instructors. Maintains communication with staff; conducts training and performance evaluations. Effectively handles staff issues; and, ensuring staff delivery of excellent customer service to patrons.
- Performs other related duties including budget preparation; processing open records requests; and, serving on assigned committees.
- Provides staff support for front desk. Answering phones, processing memberships and payments, customer service, addressing patron complaints, etc.
- Provides quality customer service to internal and external customers including front desk reception; maintaining customer relations and resolving issues; enforcing safety and facility rules/guidelines; and, providing emergency response services as needed such as CPR, First Aid, AED, etc.
- Provides management support including serving as back up Recreation Center Manager, enforcing rules and guidelines, and serving on committees.
- Conducts training including CPR and First Aid classes for staff.
Functional Area Essential Duties:
Youth Programs, and Front Desk Operations:
- Helps coordinate, supervise, and oversee Recreation Center. Coordinates and/or facilitates youth programs, youth camps, and special events.
- Maintains concession stands ensuring they are in good working order and maintaining code compliance. This includes submitting work orders to Facilities Management regarding concession stand issues including city-owned equipment in concession stands; ensuring preventative maintenance is performed on city-owned equipment such as ice machines, sire protection equipment, and AEDS; and ensuring concession stand operators comply with usage guidelines
Youth Fitness:
- Helps oversee a wide variety of recreation and fitness programs including youth fitness programs.
- Helps develops and executes quality programs and events relative to fitness, recreation and community outreach.
- Helps supervise contractor instructors, program development, and quality delivery.
- Helps coordinate the scheduling of classes, programs, and promotions.
- Helps organize registration, membership recruitment and retention.
Programs, Special Events, and Marketing:
- Coordinates, supervises, and/or facilitates youth programs, and special events.
- Maintains facility and operational readiness. This includes submitting work orders to Facilities Management regarding issues.
- Supports programs, and events by coordinating facility reservation usage, and keeping schedules updated.
- Special Events including, but not limited to, Daddy Daughter Dance, Pancakes and Pajamas, Dog Park Events, Kids Night Outs.
- Coordinates and assists with special events including special instructional programs, special services, etc. Including program development, scheduling, promotions, coordinating staff support, and ensuring quality program delivery.
- Develops, executes, and evaluates programs and ensure all programs, and events are up to date in software system.
- Supervises contractor instructors, program development, program promotion and quality delivery.
- Planning, coordinating, budgeting and executing of special events.
- Creates marketing and advertising materials for the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center programs and events. This includes the coordination and development of brochures, flyers, emails, newsletter and social media content and posts; maintains TV and radio information; manage printing of materials; and manage recreation program and event photos.
Rentals and Front Desk Operations:
- Helps coordinate Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center, facility rentals, volunteers and front desk operations.
- Supervise and train employees who perform customer service functions in relation to cash handing, enrollments, reservations, and other duties as assigned.
- Administration of the Scholarship Fund.
- Organizes registration, membership recruitment, membership promotions and retention.
- Supervises and oversees partners and partnership processes for community outreach, health, wellness and service organizations that provide quality for members.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required. College Degree in Recreation, Hospitality, Education, or related field preferred.
Minimum of three years of experience in Parks and Recreation or related field required. One year supervisory experience preferred.
Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, drug and alcohol test and motor vehicle review.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees or department including objectives/effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed.
Contacts may involve stressful, negative interactions with the public requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions.
This position normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties.
Special Requirements:
Must be able to work evenings and weekends; mobility within an office and field environment.
This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.
Licenses and Certificates:
CPRP preferred.
American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Instructor Certification or ability to obtain certification within the first six months of employment. Personal Training Certification is preferred.
Work Environment:
Works primarily in climate controlled office environment with occasional exposure to weather conditions. Physical demands are primarily sedentary in nature requiring little physical effort in working with light, and occasional lifting of objects. Walking, standing, reaching, and bending also required.
