Description

The Town is excited to announce one (1) new opportunity for experienced recreation professionals to join our Parks & Recreation team as a Recreation Technician, Sr.

Area of Assignment: Special Interest Classes (SIC)

The primary responsibility of the SIC assignment is to support the development, coordination, and delivery of recreational classes and enrichment programs for the community. This assignment may include instructor coordination, class scheduling, participant communication, program promotion, facility support, registration management, and maintaining a high-quality customer experience for residents and participants.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday | Generally scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

The position is assigned to two work locations: the Recreation Annex, located at 21802 S. Ellsworth Road, Queen Creek, AZ 85142, and the Queen Creek Recreation & Aquatic Center, located at 22343 E. Ryan Road, Queen Creek, AZ 85142. Regular attendance at special events and occasional weekend work are expected as part of this role.

JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY

Positions assigned to this class are responsible for implementing programs or projects as directed, conducting program related research and providing referral services to customers.

Responsibilities for this position include programming, coordinating, and implementing recreational activities, special event management and operations, marketing, scheduling, and contract management.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a fully qualified, experienced level administrative classification in the recreation job family. Incumbent(s) performs the full range of support duties under general supervision. Classification requires higher-level knowledge of transactional and/or work standards for completing tasks and assignments of a varied nature. This class is distinguished from the Recreation Technician position by the greater degree of independence in handling complex and day-to-day tasks, and by the minimal level of supervision required. This job classification has no supervisory responsibilities but may perform specialized lead worker responsibilities as assigned.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town's needs.

  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates recreation programs, events, and activities. Presents program/event information at a variety of meetings, outreach events and public speaking opportunities.
  • Develops and administers contracts and agreements relating to activities, program, events, and promotions; onboards independent contractors and providers of special interest classes; onboards sponsors and vendors for special events.
  • Develops and administers program budgets; meets revenue goals.
  • Coordinates with the applicable internal division in the development of marketing and public information strategies and media plans for recreation programs and events.
  • Generates e-mails, correspondence and instructional materials to notify users of policies, outages, and other web and internet information; develops online discussion forums and/or similar interactive tools that solicit information and feedback from the community.
  • Generates creative copy for marketing materials and community outreach, including brochures, newsletters, social media, signage, etc.
  • Coordinates a variety of signage calendars, editorial calendars, graphic design schedules, etc.
  • Programs, coordinates and implements recreational activities, special event management and operations, marketing, scheduling, and contract management.
  • Guides and counsels park patrons/program participants on park/program rules, care of equipment and acceptable conduct in a helpful, positive manner; assists park patrons/program participants in providing information, direction, and education and responds to complaints, inquiries, and information requests.
  • Provides prompt and courteous customer service in the front desk area in person and on telephone; responds to requests for information; answers routine questions; directs customers to appropriate department for assistance; monitors access, registrations, and money handling.
  • Creates and maintains clear, accurate and concise reports including, but not limited to incidents, programs, activities, enforcement actions, and related documents.
  • Creates and monitors administrative revenue reports, expense reports, survey results, tracking of task lists, program plans, participant counts, and staff assignments.
  • Assists in the identification and resolution of safety and maintenance issues within Town-owned properties and other facilities that the Town partners with.
  • Attends staff meetings as required; seeks out and attends training/learning opportunities to gain additional knowledge in specific areas of responsibility.
  • Assists in the hiring process and training of new staff.
  • Oversees seasonal staff and related logistics.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)

Education and Experience:

Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation or a related field and three (3) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • First Aid;
  • CPR/AED;
  • Food Safety Certificate;
  • Maintain all certifications/licenses at job entry or within 6 months of hire.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of the offer.
