Director of Behavioral Services

The Director of Behavioral Services is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the Behavioral Health Department. This role oversees daily operations to ensure high-quality, patient-centered psychiatric care aligned with the hospital's Plan for the Provision of Patient Care. This position ensures compliance with clinical standards, regulatory expectations, and organizational goals. The Director leads psychiatric program development within the Department of Nursing and collaborates closely with medical staff and hospital administration to support and personalize Piedmont Medical Center's strategic plan. The role also plays a key part in developing new programs and services to meet evolving community behavioral health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and coordinate all departmental activities to support efficient daily operations and delivery of high-quality psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Implement evidence-based standards of care; monitor and evaluate care quality, patient experience, and clinical outcomes.
  • Provide administrative oversight for psychiatric program development within Nursing Services.
  • Collaborate with medical staff and senior leadership to advance behavioral health initiatives aligned with hospital strategy.
  • Lead and participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of community-based psychiatric programs and services.
  • Prepare and manage the annual departmental budget and ensure proper resource allocation.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards.
  • Promote staff development, engagement, and retention through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Foster a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Education: Master's Degree

in Nursing required.

Experience: Minimum 5+ Years

of leadership experience in psychiatric inpatient and outpatient programs within an acute care facility.

Licensure & Certifications
  • Active Permanent Multi-State RN License in state of residence required.
  • If currently licensed in another Compact State, must obtain Multi-State RN License for resident state within 30 days.
  • American Heart Association BLS CPR certification required.
  • CPI certification required (within orientation period).
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to evaluate clinical performance and drive quality improvements.
  • Experience managing budgets, staffing, and program development.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric care standards, regulations, and best practices.
